Booking Now for 2012 affect discounts???

Does anyone think that booking now for 2012 may affect discounts that could come out for 2012? If res # are up they may cancel or limit discounts but if no one is booking they may give us more?????

As just 1 person, you aren't going to affect their decision making. But yes, absolutely --- if people aren't booking, they are more likely to offer discounts. If bookings are solid, then they are less likely to offer discounts.

Over the last year, they have been telling investors that they want to wean the public off of discounts. So I expect discounts to get less and less generous. (Such as the requirement that you buy the photo book with the latest free dining offer).

On the other hand... considering the size of some of the price increases... They have given themselves lots of room to offer big discounts as a marketing tool. (In other words, instead of offering a room for $300 per night... Offering the same room as a whopping 40% OFF!!! (Off of regular price of $500).

So from a marketing perspective, it looks like a big sale. And from a pricing perspective, it gives them the freedom to adjust discounts constantly to fill up rooms, and to get "full price" from the people most willing to pay.

This is what I am hoping happens.....lots of people book the value resorts for 2012 (like I did) so they decide to offer discounts for moderates and deluxe.

Yes, I think it does affect discounts. If they're pretty booked up, they won't feel like they have to offer discounts. But if they don't, and people are counting on them, if they don't show up by the 45 day canc. date, people may cancel, and opt to stay off site, cheaper.

We travel during President's week which is busy and most of the time have only booked once discounts have come out. We've rarely ever had a problem getting the resort/room we want. I agree with what others said that Disney is more likely to release discounts if bookings are low.
