How much $$ do you usually put aside for that and what are the extra perks?
I think someone said 10% off and OBC ?

The perks you get are 10% off the next cruise and OBC depending on length of cruise ($200 for 7+ nights, $100 for less). If you are booking an actual date you will pay a deposit of 10% for 7+ night cruises and 20% for shorter cruises. If the date you are wanting is not out yet, you book a placeholder cruise for a flat $200. When the dates you want are released, you move your placeholder to an actual date and you will have the 10%/OBC perks. You must cruise within 24 months of the time you book onboard.

Also be aware that you can book more than one placeholder (or actual date) at that discount and OBC. If you're traveling with your spouse on your next cruise for example, you can each book a placeholder for a $200 deposit, so you'll have the chance to cruise 2x in the next 24 months with the discount and OBC (assuming you only need one room for your party when you sail). Great deal and super easy! For my upcoming sailing I've budgeted an extra $400 and my husband and I will each book a placeholder res. when we figure out when we can sail and can pay the additional deposit, we'll just call back and book actual sail dates.

I don't think this is correct. I believe you can only book one placeholder/cruise per address. If your spouse has a different address you could do 2 but that's not usually the case.

Hmmm. Sorry if I'm wrong, but on our last cruise we were able to book two additional rooms (one in my name, one one for in my husband's). This was before the new policy of $200 deposit per room, per placeholder applied, so definitely correct me if I am being incorrect or misleading new cruisers!

I'm sorry if I am wrong, but I have always thought for the last few years that you could only book one onboard booking with discounts per family. You could book 2 rooms but they had to be for the same cruise(unless they were B2B cruises). If you tried to change one of those rooms to a different cruise you would lose the discount and OBC. @mmouse37 Any insight on this?

We booked two staterooms last November but we also had two staterooms on that cruise so maybe that is why they let us.

The rule in recent years has been up to 2 staterooms for one future cruise date, per address represented on the current cruise. Those 2 will receive full OBB benefits. You may book more staterooms and/or dates, but those would not receive full OBB benefits. An exception is booking a B2B.

Now, whether that has changed with the new "placeholders" or not I can't say.

No its the 'base' cruise deposit ie 3/4/7 not back to back the back to back is two cruises.
