I am going to add a cash night to an existing BCV studio reservation. Member services is $2 more than the AP rate but then they would be able to link my reservation.

I will be arriving late - probably around 10:30 or 11:00pm. I know there will be slim pickings and what I get is what I get.

For the convenience of not having to switch resorts, I don't mind paying $$ for one night here vs. a Moderate or Value resort.

Are there other advantages/disadvantages?

I'm confused. I've paid cash with CM rate (SIL is a CM at MK, but up until recently, ressies were made through CRO, just like AP rates) followed by DVC points stays several times and they've always "linked" my reservation by simply noting the cash reservation number on the DVC points reservation and vice versa. You just need to make two phone calls -- one to MS and one to CRO with the reservation numbers -- as they can't access each other's systems . It always works out fine for us -- we've yet to have to change a room. I think we've done this four or five times now -- twice at OKW and once each at WL and BWV for sure.

Or has something changed that I don't know about?

Otherwise, I don't think there's any reason to do it one way over the other, though for $2 I'd go through MS so it's all in one place.

MS can guarantee that you will have the same room and one check-in for your stay. If you have two reservations, they may allow you to keep the same room for the entire stay and they do try to accommodate, but they will not guarantee. You will have to check-in a second time if done thru CRO.

Either way, the $2 difference would sway me to have MS book the entire stay.

Enjoy!

We just stayed at SSR in a studio for seven nights. The first two nights (Fri and Sat) were AP rates (they were a good deal cheaper than cash discount through MS). Then the next five nights were on points. We called MS to have the CRO reservation number put on our points reservation. We did not ask CRO to put the points reservation number on the reservation.

When we checked in, our reservations were NOT linked, but the CM at the desk (Carmen, THANKS, Carmen) was able to move us to a room that was not blocked out, block us in the room for seven nights and we did not have to move. Without this we would have been moving on Sunday morning.

But you still had to go to the front desk on Sunday morning to check out and back in again (and get new keys), right?

With a cash ressie made through MS, you would not have to do that. It is a minor inconvenience, but if there is a big difference between the MS rate and the CRO rate, it can be worth it.

Best wishes-

Yes, we did have to check back in again. No real problem. I did it while my son was still sleeping and my husband was out running. There was no one other than castmembers at the check in area, so it went very quickly.

I did a MS cash reservation a long time ago at OKW and I thought I had to check out and in again on that one, too. I thought it was a given.

I've done a MS cash reservation twice, both times for a night or two before our points stay. We did not have to check back in again either time. Last month we did a Saturday night on MS cash and then Sunday-Thursday nights on points (OKW 1 bedroom). We got keys and a parking permit for the entire 6 nights. Everything was treated as 1 reservation. Our trash & towel was Tuesday, which was day 4 of the combined reservation. I've also done it with an AP rate, and we did have to check back in and get new keys, parking permit.

? With a cash ressie through MS, what is the cancelation policy? If I book a cash room to add on to a points stay and then change my mind later will I have to pay anything?

They take a credit card # as a guarantee but don't charge a deposit. If you cancel 5 days or less prior, they charge 1 night. 6 days or more, there is no penalty. When you check-in, they charge the night(s) to your card.
