Booking last night at 7 month mark

I am planning a family trip to HHI next summer. I need two 2BRs. I have enough HHI points for all but the last night of one room. So, I will have to wait until the 7 month mark to use my non HHI points. When does the 7 month mark start? 7 months from the beginning of our ressie? Or, 7 months from the day that I need?

I thought about trying to get that night on cash, but I doubt cash nights are available for a weeknight that far in advance.

It is 7 months from the first date you want to book. So if the last night is what you need to book at 7 months, you need to wait 7 months from that date. It's always 7 months from the FIRST day you are TRYING to book with non home points.

How short are you? You can buy some points to close in .... I think it's up to 16. If that doesn't work you can try to get someone to transfer points in but they would have to be HH points to book further than 7 months. If all else fails I would book on points everything but the first day that way you can make the reservation earlier and book alternate lodging for the first day that you can cancel if the 7 months doesn't work out.

Of course this would work but I am assuming they are borrowing everything they have. Is this a safe assumption?

.......l. If all else fails I would book on points everything but the first day that way you can make the reservation earlier and book alternate lodging for the first day that you can ,ocancel if the 7 months doesn't work out.

I agree with booking the first day on cash if that day should more likely to be available at 7 months.

I booked a Saturday and Sunday for a 2 BR on cash at 11 months out for our 2013 trip to HHI because I was 7 points short for the Sunday night. At 7-months, I got online at noon and had to WL for Sunday . It came through a couple months later so I cancelled the cash reservation for that night.

If you own enough HHI points to cover most of your trip, book those rooms NOW and make a cash reservation for the one night you need. If you want a summer reservation and you need two rooms, it's better to have to waitlist one night in one room than a whole week for two rooms

Thanks everyone.

I will be borrowed out to make this ressie. Can't do one time purchase points at the 11 month mark, so that's out.

I'll try to get the one night I need on cash- I will ask member services if any of the nights I need are available for cash. I wasn't sure there'd be any this far in advance, but I can hope to get lucky!
