I have just contacted Virgin for a price in Nov 2009 2 adults 1 child. 9 nights at QI Plaza and the last 5 at Polynesian. With car and insurance £3100. I read somewhere about insurance for car hire charging £109.00 annual price. Firstly is this price of £3100 good and has anyone used insurance for car hire? We are also planning on using Tesco vouchers to part pay next year. The poly was £355 more for a lagoon view which I thought was expensive just for 5 nights. Roll on next year!!

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this someone but from what I understand is that if you use Tesco vouchers, you have to book it by phone and you don't get your 5% online booking discount, or 10% FVC discount if entitled. All a bit of a con really.

i use Virgin and i book online to get the 5% discount, didnt know you could use your vouchers with them

It definitely says phone bookings only and to be redeemed against full advertised brochure prices.

I tried using my vouchers with my Virgin Holiday but coldn't have any discount. As I had a virgin mastercard I got 10% so I cinverted my vouchers back and took the discount.

I plan to use them on a "small" holiday with either Cosmos or French Life as I wouldn't qualify for a discount with these companies so it would be worth it.


I do think it's a bit of a con and you should be able to use these vouchers as part payment against any holiday price you can get.

If I use £150.00 of Tesco vouchers against the cost of my Virgin holiday it is worth £600.00 off the total cost. 5% off a £3000 holiday does not equate to £600.00. Before anyone asks we use a Tesco credit card so earn points wherever we shop. Hopefully by next year we will have about £250 in vouchers about £1000 off the holiday cost. For us the voucher deal is better.

That's a lot of vouchers! In your case it does sound a good saving. Just be careful when you book. Get an online quote first and then compare it with the quote they give you when you phone them. The offer is against brochure prices only which may differ to prices they are offering at the time online or to non-voucher users. I've just booked our holiday for next year and the adults and teen prices are £100 cheaper each than the new brochure (came out a week ago) and they didn't charge me the ASM supplement of £16 a night which over 20 nights is £320. So I saved £720 off the brochure price, add my 10% FVC discount of another £300 and I've saved over £1000 over the brochure price without using Tesco vouchers. I also got the car upgraded twice free of charge upto full size.
