Just wondering when I will be able to book a room for next February.

Online packages will probably be released in June. But you can call to book a room only up to 499 days in advance.

Room only you can call over the phone now (I believe). Packages you have to wait until the summer...

If I book room only now, can I switch to a package or better offer if one comes out?

Technically speaking, yes but it involves booking a package and cancelling the room only or booking a new room only (I think) and cancelling the one you already have. My knowledge the room only side might be wrong, as I normally book packages.

Yes. But package discounts and offers are based on availability and there is no guarantee that the room you book today will qualify for any deals next February. Book now only if you are comfortable paying the rack rate. Otherwise, just sit tight and wait for discounts to be announced some time in late fall or early winter. Reserving a room now does not give you any advantage when it comes down to booking a discount.

We're renting DVC, so we're booking this next week for our January stay at exactly the 11 month mark. I have very little expectations of 'deals' happening early 2020 with it being so close to Star Wars opening.

I plan to book for May of 2020 later this week! (knock wood)

We want a water/boardwalk view at Boardwalk Inn and want to book as soon as we can. :)

If we book room only, I'm assuming they adjust price when the new pricing for 2020 comes out? I don't think we have to do anything. And then just purchase tickets separately?

I'm not really sure, as normally we just book a package when they are available.

Yes. With a room only you will pay a one nights deposit at the highest nightly rate from this year. Then once the 2020 rack rates come out your balance due will adjust to the rack rate for your dates minus the deposit already paid.

Yes and yes.

@dansdad thank you!

I'M SO EXCITED TO BOOK!!! :jumping1::jumping1::jumping1:

It's over a year away and we have another trip somewhere else before this, but there's nothing like that feeling when you've got a WDW trip on the books!

If you have a room-only reservation and want to switch to a package when they come out, call Disney. They will rebook as a package, making sure you get the same room type and resort (unless you ask to switch). Then you pay a $200 deposit on the package and get your new confirmation number. Once that's done, they will cancel your room-only reservation and refund the deposit on your room-only. You can't apply the room-only money to the package reservations, as they are different systems.

Booking the room ahead of time as a room-only makes sense if you want a particular resort and room type, as they may no longer be available for your trip dates once the packages come out. If getting a discounted rate is more important to you and you aren't particular which resort you stay at, then you might as well wait until the packages come out.

You're welcome and I completely agree!
