I am getting the following message when trying to book online. Not sure if it's my PC/browser or DVC that is having the issue:confused3:confused3

Do you get immediately when going to the screen, or after you are on the screen for a few moments? For me, I can get to each of the screens, but if I delay too long (some times as little as 10 seconds) before doing the next step, I then get the same error. So I just work fast. I know, not a good solution, but it works for me.

I get the error message after being on the screen for a few moments. So I guess its a DVC website issue

Theres a bad auto refresh URL in the page header. Just hit BACK and it'll continue working. Another stupid bug DVD just can't be bothered to fix.
Yeah, it continues to work, but everything you've done is gone and you start over. Each.And.Every.Time. Never have I had a booking work successfully the first time. Just last Friday I gave up after 5 (yes 5) attempts. Ended up calling and waiting on hold for 30 minutes. As stated numerous times and places, Disney IT is the worst.

It's par for the course when you outsource your development overseas. Been there, done that. Upper management loves the cost savings...until it doesn't work and you have to staff up and rebuild everything from scratch in-house. When all you care about is the up-front cost, dvcmember.com is what you get.

I've never gotten the impression it's outsourced overseas. I've often seen comments from people that know people who work IT and I actually know a company that did some of the work for MDE. All state side.

Yup. And they've managed to put the blame on us, the members. When I mentioned how pathetic the online booking system is, the Member Services agent said it was because so many people are trying to use it and book the same room at the same time. I have no idea how she came up with that excuse, but there it is.

It doesn't really matter whether it is stateside or overseas. Everything Disney IT related is bad. Imagine if Amazon ran their IT the way Disney/ABC does. DVCMember.com doesn't work. MDE is pathetic at best. Just try to make a dining reservation. Try to buy tickets even. If it works at all it is so slow as to be nerve wracking. Just last week or so they eliminated userIDs from their sites without so much as a hello, we've made a change. It just stopped working. It's really unbelievable and yet we as members put up with, apologize for it, and make excuses for them.

No disagreement there. Of course Amazon has to have something that works. Disney has us who will just keep trying. :fish:

I'm sure he or she heard it from a very reliable bus driver. Either that or that agent is completely psychotic.

Funny how the systems that generate new revenue (i.e. charging to your magicband, cash room bookings, processing credit cards) never seem to have capacity issues.

A couple friends of mine from college worked on MyMagic+. However, the DVC site is *clearly* outsourced. I've dealt with enough garbage code from miscellaneous offshore developers in my career. Dvcmember.com exhibits all the familiar signs.

Just one of hundreds of articles about the outsourcing.

That is not overseas outsourcing, but yes, I'm aware of the controversy of the H-1B visas. They work in this country though.

And, just to point out. The IT issues have been forever. The foreign workers are actually pretty new on the scene. I'm not certain what areas they were hired for but Disney has lots of IT requirement well beyond their websites.

You keep making my point for me.

Why is what I would like to know. Why can't they fix them? Simplest answer I can think of is because they simply don't care. They've got our money and we're a captive audience so why bother to fix the problems? After all, it took them years to even implement online booking that other sites had years ago.

One of my favorite "features" of the dvcmember site is the improperly configured F5 BigIP load balancer(s) on the front end that send you to the wrong web server. Have you seen this? Where it says "Welcome !" but doesn't actually have your name there. Then, some of the info is populated (translation: security hole, because you shouldn't have access to that without a proper session) but some things, like the availability calendar, don't work at all? Those things are not THAT difficult to set up correctly. How do I know? I manage several on a regular basis. Also, they should change the default persistence cookie prefix from "BigIP" so it's not so frikkin obvious what hardware they're using. Surely any hacker would find that little nugget to be very useful indeed.

Note: To fix that problem temporarily, in spite of their incomptence, delete the "disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com" cookies and refresh your browser. You'll notice how it suddenly works again, at least for that session.
