Today i found out some unsettling information. A friend of mine has started working for disneyworld making reservations, booking packages etc. I was always under the assumption that we are calling into call centers well that is not always the case. My friend is paid to make reservations in her home all she needs is a landline 4 months of training and a computer with disneys booking site downloaded. I do not like the idea of calling to make my reservations and giving my credit card info, address etc to some person sitting in their livingroom who could be copying it down to use at some future date. a company like disney i would think would have safer booking practises like the call centers i thought we all booked thru. Just my thoughts but i am very upset by this.

How would them sitting in a call center reduce the risk?

I've worked in non-Disney call centers. Believe me when I say nobody knows or cares what the person next to them is doing. You're pretty much alone, for all intents and purposes.

If the idea of work-from-home phone agents bothers you, don't do phone bookings. Go online or use a travel agent.

I hate to break it to you but that is something a lot of companies are starting to expand in to..the large insurance company I worked for had work at home people (though they limited how many people since they have to pay for their internet and phone line). Also the setting of the call center does not in any way indicate the "security" of the information.

ETA: Also don't assume there are cameras in all call center environments. In my call center, for the large insurance company, there were cameras ONLY facing the entrances onto the floor but there were no cameras facing any person at their desk period.

Seems to me it would be pretty easy to jot down some numbers on paper and get it out of anywhere.

I worked in a call center and I also worked from home (customer service at both locations). One is not safer than the other.

If a dishonest person is employed in either place they will do something dishonest. It does not matter where they are.

TAs work from home, too.

That's the way many are now, the callcenter is on the way out. When you call Apple, you have a very good chance of getting someone who is a temp worker on a computer in their own home. You see, the callcenter near us used to pay $14 an hour to start for tech support, but, now that they can get people to work from home, they can offer jobs in really impoverished areas where people will take a temp job at $8 an hour that requires a 2 year degree and even provide their own phone line and internet.

So, yeah, there's a good chance when you call a callcenter you are actually talking to someone in their own home who was willing to work for minimum wage and supply their own internet.

I might be a smidge bitter.. lol

I wouldn't necessarily say you are naive. It's just that this is becoming more and more common. I wouldn't want you to think this is something related to Disney in any way because to be honest it isn't (i.e. wouldn't want a bad mark against Disney just because they decided to go that route of work at home reservation agents).

I might be missing something, but I do not get the logic in your comments. I do not see how location has anything to do with the integrity of a person's heart. Scamming can be done anywhere. All it takes is a pen, piece of paper or cell phone.

My job allows me to work from home for medical reasons and I am not in an office like most of my teammates. I have one client I place credit card orders for all of the time (huge dollar amounts at once) and never one time have I thought about using their P-Card for my own personal use.

I'd like to know how to get that job. :) I need something to do when my kids go back to school in the fall!

Many travel agents work from home, I believe Dreams Unlimited has some, and they take your cc information over the phone. I just always assume my cc info. is not safe no matter where I use it so I check my account every other day. If something shows up I don't know, I can just dispute it.

I'm pretty sure they have been doing this a while. Last summer I booked NOJ and I swear the CM was washing the dishes while I made small talk after the reservation about the event. I don't mind. It's the way of the world.

I would agree. I have heard babies crying in the background, dogs barking, birds chirping and cats meowing. I think I hear a lawn being mowed once as well.
