We are looking at May 2017 (10th anniversary with 3yr old) or 2018 (40th birthday year for us with 4yr old). Does Disney run any deals that time of year on rooms or is renting points from Davids/DVC Rental Store a better deal? Any advantage to renting DVC if we are not DVC? What about for annual pass holders? This will be a 7 day trip.

Depends on the promotion being offered and WHEN you book it. This springs offer from the website is

STAY LONGER, SAVE MORE!
Save 25% on stays of 4 consecutive nights
Save 30% on stays of 5 or more consecutive nights

Offer valid most nights April 3 through June 13, 2016. Book through March 21, 2016.

but I have seen book early offers that include a food or resort credit. There is no guarantee that there will be any discounts offered and I would not plan on it BUT there has been over the last few years. I found Davids was cheaper and renting DVC points gives you free parking. It is in the range of $35 per night on a regular hotel stay

Also check if you can find someone getting married there or having a vow renewal. We were able to get some people booked into our group block and get them a big discount on rooms, and we don't even know them lol. But it helps them out and helps us out, so maybe check the wedding board too.

Really?
What if they do something to the rooms-are you responsible

No you're not. You're still booking a room under our own name and credit card. You're responsible for your own room even if you used a group booking code.

It's like if you go to a convention and they have a group rate available. The convention company isn't responsible for the hundreds of people who book the room using that group code.

Thats amazing!
