We have decided after banking quite a few of our points this year into next, that we may treat ourselves to a cruise after Thanksgiving next year followed by a stay in the parks. I asked a question about the cruise on the cruise board and learned that the Nov 26 2005 cruise is filling up very fast and they have not all been able to get the rooms they want. As I can't book this until Dec 26 (or 27th, since 26th is a Sunday) I am concerned...do they hold open any rooms for DVC members booking at the 11 month window on points?

I can call MS, but thought I'd check online here to see if anyone knew.

Thanks.

I think you will be OK. I know a set # of rooms are usually set aside for DVC; What the do is upgrade those paying cash and give the lower available room to the DVC memeber.

We booked on points this year; granted everyone says you can sell/rent your points and it is a better value but we really enjoyed the ease of it all and it worked out great for us.

If it makes you feel any better, I would call Memberserices to check.

Good luck

We rented out our points to pay for our cruise it was far more beneficial as we rented the number of points needed and had enough to pay for the cruise and our dues and have spending money left over.

if you want an idea of what catagories are left on a particular cruise, go to www.disneycruise.com and get a quote for the cruise you are looking at. It will let you know what is available.

Thanks to all of you for your replies!!!

We'd love to try a Disney cruise and would have in the past if we didn't have 3 kids! If you have 5 people, even with a baby, we were told we'd have to get the Deluxe family stateroom w/ verandah. It seems like there weren't that many of them (compared to the other staterooms) and there weren't any deals on the price (there were deals on the other staterooms). We tryed 3 different cruise dates and those staterooms were booked every time. I wonder if I would be more able to get that category stateroom booking through DVC? Of course, it's probably a gagillion points and we wouldn't do it anyway! :earboy2:

I don't think they set aside cabins for DVC but rather limit DVC to a Max number of cabins much like Delta might do for a flight. Still, I'd doubt you'd have any problems at 11 months out.

NMW,
What about getting two room of a lower category?
Say an eleven and a twelve. You would have to pay for two adults in each room, but , overall the total points would be less.

I guess we were just afraid that we'd end up on opposite sides of the ship. Plus, our kids are pretty young and we were afraid they'd be upset about whatever parent they were seperated from. :D Maybe we'll try it when they are a little older. :flower:

NMW,
We had a category four earlier this year in March. It was spring break. The reservation we got was about 11 months earlier. It was all on points. You're right, it cost us about 900 points, a gazillion. I have a hard time thinking of doing that again. I would however, consider two rooms of a lower category. You can get adjoining rooms with a connecting interior door. This gives the appearance of only one room and also gives you two bathrooms. If you do that , let me know how you like it. I'm sure that there are lots of people on the boards that have done this. Absolutely without any doubt, a disney cruise is the most amazing thing I have done in Disney so far. I have been to Disney multiple times and have owned in DVC since 1994. It was my first cruise this year and I'm sure that affected our impression of it.

That is a great idea, but it wasn't accurate for us recently. We checked into the 4-day Magic Cruise for January 4 - 8 late last week and they showed only CATs 5, 7, and 8. When I called MS to book using points, they had 9s available, also. That's what we booked.

My point is that looking online is good mostly to see if anything at all is available, but call to see what is accurately available.

GOOD LUCK!
