Sorry if this was asked before. Can I book my home resort at 11 months and then at 7 try to get a different resort? Or do i need to just stick it out to 7 and see what happens?

You can modify the reservation and change to a different resort once you reach the 7 month window (subject to availability). This can be done online yourself or by calling Member Services.

Yes book your home resort at 11 months, then modify it at 7 months if something else you want is available, or set up a wait list.

You can book even before 11 months if you "walk your reservation." I'm not buying or selling this approach nor have I used it but . . . some folks will make a reservation for a coveted week or room type (e.g., studios during very busy times of year) 11 months before the week BEFORE they want a reservation. Then they will change their reservation every day taking a day off the front end and adding a day on to the back end. In this way they "walk" a reservation from 11 months and 1 week out to the 11 month point. Many folks know about this approach and you may hear it mentioned on these boards. Pete even did a show on it recently. I bring it up because your original question was something someone very new might ask and I thought you may not have heard of this. Please note that some may have strong (negative) feelings about this.

I would go a step further and strongly suggest you absolutely book your home resort at 11 months as you have no way of knowing if you can get in at your preferred resort at 7 months. That way, you will at least have a reservation at a resort you hopefully bought because you loved it and not because it was less expensive.

Especially if you are booking a studio, you want to book home resort at 11 months and then try to switch out at 7. And certain times of the year you want to be sure to book home resort at 11 months...basically fall through early January.

Always book at 11 months then try to change.
If you only book at 7 months, then all points are created equal, and the whole concept of a home resort is out the window. Everyone would just get SSR points (since they are the best value)
