Booking and canceling extra days to get room discount

Would you book a room for 2 weeks to get the room category/discount that you want and then call to change it to five nights later?

You could do that however when you call to change your ressie you will lose your discount and pay rack rate on the room.

Are you sure? I've taken off days on a package before and never lost our discount.

I can't see how this would help. They will only book you the room if all nights are available and if you book a special with a minimum number of days if you drop below that number you lose the special pricing. If you make 2 separate room only reservations for different views sometimes they do allow you to stay in the pricier room but not always. For example if you have a 2 day AKL stay in a savanna room and then a 3 days stay in a standard room they may allow you to stay in the view room.

I guess I'm still confused, lol. Looking at AP rates online, the only WL room available is a courtyard bunkbed room or woods bunkbed room for our dates. But, we would rather have just a woods view. Playing around, I found that if I book for 2 weeks, the woods view suddenly became available. I thought that it might be possible to book the woods view, and then cancel the extra days later.

i have done this before, infact i did that for this trip. not sure why it happens that way but it does. I booked the 8th-20. then the next day called back and cancelled 8-11th. Discount still there.

Have you tried calling instead of using the website? You may be able to get the days you want by calling and not have to mess with cancelling.

Consider the fact that you would be tying up resort nights for another family that might like to book them before you do it. Holding 14 nights when you only need 5 nights is keeping 9 nights of a room out of the reservation system for someone else.
