Booking additional Fastpasses

I booked Fastpasses for our upcoming trip on Halloween. We are a party of 14. I had no issues booking our 3 FP’s per day at 60 days but on our last trip had trouble booking additional FP’s at the parks if people in our group decided they didn’t want to go on an attraction. After booking FP’s for this trip I heard my brother in law doesn’t like rollercoasters so I thought we could have cast member scan his magicband to activate FP when he arrives at FP attraction and then he doesn’t go on. 2 years ago until everyone in party used all 3 FP’s we couldn’t book the 4th FP. Was that a glitch or is it necessary to have him scan his FP on the rides he doesn’t want to go on so we don’t have issues booking additional same day FP’s after using up our first 3.

Why don't you re-book HIS current FPs for other attractions he WILL ride?

Regardless, if he does simply scan-in at the FP attraction(s) but not ride,
(and after the 3rd attraction FP is "scanned-in" for all of your party, you will then be able to book "4th" FP (and beyond, after that one is scanned) for your group.

I suggested that already. He doesn’t want to switch to another ride unless someone goes on another attraction with him. No one is willing to do that. Well just have him scan for first 3 if there is a ride he doesn’t want to go on and he will have to wait.

Well, that WAS the most sensible solution, but if he doesn't want to ride alone -- oh, well. Not your choice.

If he's 100% sure he isn't going to ride, I'd say have him cancel his Fast Pass so someone else can have it.

Yes. It’s tough planning a trip with a big group. I had touched base with everyone numerous times before I booked FP’s and of course this was not mentioned until now. That would be great if we could cancel it. It would give someone else the opportunity to get a Fastpass and it wouldn’t be wasted. In 2016, we went to Disney World with a big group and same thing happened and it wouldn’t allow any of us in the group to get a 4th FP until that person used up their 1st three FP’s. I was hoping that had changed but I don’t think it has.

In MK you can Cancel his coaster FPs and it won’t affect booking for the complete group after the coaster riders ride.

His unused FPs only affect FP#4s in Tiered parks for the complete group.

If someone is willing to ride alone, after you get off the ride, someone could use his Fastpass. When we went in 2016, I used another person’s Fastpass many times in our party of 7 when most of the time only 2 people stayed the whole time.

But if nobody wants to ride alone, like mentioned above, for Magic Kingdom, simply cancelling or modifying his Fastpass won’t affect the 4th FP+. In the other parks, unless you cancelled a tier 1 FP+, he wouldn’t be able to get a 4th FP+ for a Tier 1 ride (so no cancelling Mission Space and then getting Soarin’ instead).

You can also wait for the FP+ to expire in tiered parks. One time a couple members in our group didn’t use their Nemo Fastpass and so it expired but we were still able to get Test Track for our 4th FP+.

If none of these work or none of these are convenient, then yes, you can have him scan his MagicBand/ticket and get out of line. We’ve done that before.
