Booking a stateroom ?'s

How early will I need to book to get a standard inside stateroom? I would rather have an outside one, but I have not frequently seen any DCL discounts. What is a good rate on an inside/outside, and where can I found the best rate at? I am consider using my DVC points to save the hassle of shopping around but I would hate to think that I could have gotten the cruise for so much less. Also, there will we 4 of us, kids 3 & 4. Will we be cramped in an inside room.

We have always booked inside staterooms. 5 cruises so far. We had 14 yo grandson and 11 yo grandson with us once and there was enough room for us. We are never in our room except to sleep and change. There is just too many fun things to be doing.
