Sorry - but I'm confused about making "Room Only" Reservations and a Vacation Package?

I assume it is the same if I can the 407-DISNEY number or book it via disney.go.com? I am a Canadian Resident (Also CAA member) and not sure if I should apply the discount code "ZWE" or ask for AAA special rates.

1). Is there any difference if I book a Vacation Package (say with Dining Plan Deluxe and 5-Day ticket), or I make Room ONLY reservation?
2). If I make Room ONLY reservation, can I still add Dining Plan, Magic Your Way Tickets etc prior to arrival?
3). If I make reservation today via Disney.com (for Mar 2008 travel), is there any penalty if I cancel or make changes later?

If you make a room-only reservation they will collect a deposit equal to one night's lodging. If you want to change it to a package later they have to cancel the room-only, refund your deposit back to your credit card, and then rebook as a package and collect a $200 deposit. It shouldn't be a problem unless the resort you have selected has limited availability. In the past, the cancelation policy on the room-only was more generous when you booked via phone vs. online -- I don't know if that has changed or not so you might want to double check before you decide which way to book.

As far as the discounts, have them check it both ways and just go with whichever is lower.

Also to answer your second question you cannot add the dining plan to a room only reservation. It must be a package with at least a one day park ticket to be able to add dining plan.

If you are booking for March, you should book now and use the code for Canadian visitors. The code will likely be for the public by November 1 and there may not be availability at the resort that you want. If you book the package with dining, you can still change or cancel up to 45 days before arrival (probably closer than that--not sure). It's best to book now since you can always change. I believe the discount code is better than CAA.

Thank you very much for the prompt comments.

Splashmom, where can I find the code for Canadian visitors?

The code is on the Canadian Disney website--I can't recall for sure but I think it is ZWD for the package and there is another code to add dining. The CM will look it up for you as long as you have the original code.

Thank you Splashmom. I will call them to figure it out, guess they won't allow me to simply punch in the code via disney web site.

I was reading mousesaver.com but unable to find the correct code.

Just curious to ask. After make booking with Disney, do they mail (or email) a reservation confirmation?
