The benefit of a package is all based on what you want.
Be SURE to check out the hotel, to see what their rates are. Do your math. Check out
disneyland's ticket prices on their website. Do more math.
With a package you get little intangible things, like Mickey's ToonTown Morning Madness, and preferred seating to some things like Aladdin. Depending on when you go, special seating might not be of any value (when we used it during a slow time to see Aladdin, we spent MORE time in line than the regular line, and we got worse seats for actually seeing the full show). MTTMM might not be of any value if going at a slow time, or if you don't have little kids or Mickey fanatics, LOL.
So do all of the math, and really figure out what's best for you. The other issue with a package is if you have to cancel. If you just book a hotel, it's easier to cancel that (know the cancelation time period though!). If you buy tickets ahead of time you'll probably just be stuck with those, but at least you're not also losing the hotel costs...then again, maybe losing your deposit would be better than having those tickets!
We booked a package for our first big trip, then later realized we would have done better to just book the special (at the time) AP rate for the PPH and just buy the AP (we knew we were upgrading to APs ahead of time), instead of going with the package. Would ahve missed out on MTTMM and such, but would have had more cash for the vacation!
