Booking 2010 European Cruises with Points

If anyone is interested in the 12 day baltic--

I'm not sure how many would be interested in this information. I just hung up from member services (DVC) and found out some point totals required for this cruise- these are based on 2 adults and 2 kids-
--for cat 6 771 per adult
cat 8 652 kids--- 225 over 13 //212 under 13
cat 9 628
cat 10 574

Oh- I wanted to add cash prices--1485 for under 12 1575 for over 12 and 4395 cat 8 adult.

I didn't ask for anything over cat 6--I was in shock over 771 and thought my heart couldnt take it.

They are opening early on the 14th at 8am.

Good Luck!

Joanne

That 771 per person for the cat. 6 is quite a shocker! :scared1: I called yesterday and got that from MS too. I can't believe that DH just added another 150 points just so we can do that cruise in a cat. 6.

What else do we pay if we book with points?

Do we pay the gas surcharge or is that included?

I am planning on booking a 2010 cruise. Do we call MS first thing on Tuesday morning?

Thanks!:wizard:

MS=Member Services (DVC).

Good luck with renting! Still waiting on the point charts for the cruises....

Oh Duh....:rolleyes1
saw the postings about the points....:scared1: we might make a cat 9 for the 3 of us with our points....

I listed my banked points and got one answer...have never done this:scared: and don't know if it will work out....

a cat 9 for three of us would be about $ 9747 on the cheap end and $13,037 on the high end...
Points would be about 1256 for the two and ? for our daughter....maybe another 225? total 1481.....
Just don't know what to do..:confused3
Help :worship: anyone?

I think the chart is out. I was talking to Member Services (MS) today and she gave me the point # for the 2010 cruises I am considering.

Everyone one of them is way higher than I expected. For category 11 for a 7 night holiday cruise for a party of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids), I need more than 940 points or something like that!! Even the 5 night Wonder cruise in the summer will take a big number of points. It is just not worth it once you factor in how much the dues are. We ended up paying cash for the Panama cruise. The rate that I paid vs. the points would make the point value to be just a little over $5 a point!!!

BTW, you pay $95 booking fee plus the fuel charges by person by the # of days.

Don't you wonder how they are still getting away with "fuel surcharges" when the price of oil has dropped considerably??

I spoke to MS this morning and the fuel charge for the Baltic cruises, family of 4 is as follows:

$8 per person/per night. Translates to $384 to be paid at time of booking. I inquired what happens if this fuel charge changes before the cruise since it is so far ahead, and he had no information on that to give me.

I know we are crazy. But we just added more points so we could go on the Northern Capitals cruise. We were only short a few points. So it was actually cheaper to add more points than to pay cash for the cruise. At least that is how I convince DH.

But the thing I wanted to warn everyone about is the concept of making a cash reservation and then converting to DVC points later. I was told by MS on Thursday that they will not be allowing members to do this, since the points are already out. They again confirmed this when we did the add-on yesterday. I was told that it was a real mess in the past when they allowed this. Now I only received this information from two CM's and our guide, others may get different answers. But I thought I better let everyone know what I have been told. Supposedly, if you make a reservation in cash, you will have to cancel with DCL and try to rebook with MS. This may work for some of the less popular cruises. But I'm not taking a chance with the Northern Capitals one. I think there will be quit a waitlist for that one.

thanks so much for making up my mind!!!:worship:
points it is....I am not about to make one reservation, cancel and hope that I get one with points if I don't come up with all the money....

called member services a few hours ago...first girl said no points out yet....didn't believe her so called back and got the best person ever, Catherine...
She said she just got a email about fuel prices and they are built into the points so no need to pay for those...she gave me the points and really helped....she said they expect the cruises to sell very fast.....and to expect to be on the phone for 2 hours on Tues......

Does anyone have the points for the cruises in a lesser category? Given what I have seen so far, I am thinking Category 11 it is!!!! (but at least I will have the chance to go!) So, they open at 8 am on Tuesday (ack, 5 am Calif time...it may be a long morning!)

Called right at 8:00 and finally has put in the queue after listening to it ring for about 2 minutes. It took about 1 hour and 25 minutes total. I now have a cat. 6 on the June 12th Northern European Cruise. Whoopee!!

Finally just finished booking after an hour and 45 minutes with a combo of DVC points and cash. July 6 Baltic sailing. Whew!
