Has anyone ever booked the wrong flight, realized it once the confirmation email came and panicked to cancel it?! :scared1:

Yes that's what I did yesterday. I saw the flight sale and jumped on it immediately. I got the confirmation email saying my departure and arrival...and that's when I realized I had booked the wrong flight. I wanted to go from Point A to Point B and I booked going from Point B to point A.

The email had said the ticket was non-refundable and non-transferable but could be cancelled (for a $40 charge) and you take a credit to be used within a year. Right away I called the 1-800 number, get put on hold then I found out I could cancel online.

Sooo...everything worked out. I cancelled the flight and the cancellation confirmation said when you cancel a ticket within 24 hours the you're refunded or the transaction is cancelled. Thank Goodness!

Moral of the story is, Do not book flights when you are tired and CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT CITIES!! :headache: Everything is fine now, except I still need the flight and have to wait for a sale.

SOME airlines give you a 24 hour grace period from time of booking to cancel - SOME.....

glad that it worked out for you!

Yea I was very lucky. Talk about panic though!! My heart was just racing.

Not only right cities - make sure you have the right times! I booked travel for us to meet my family in Orlando to have Christmas with my brother and thought I was booking an 8am flight. Then when the day before our flight rolled around and I kept getting a "you cannot check in more than 24 hours before your flight" error message when checking in online, I did a little snooping. I wanted to throw up when I saw I'd booked PM instead of AM.

I got on the phone with USAir, sounded appropriately chagrined and the nice phone agent helped me rebook AND I was still able to use my upgrades to first class. phew!

Yeah...I had SW flights booked correctly and then quickly rebooked when a Ding came out -- with the return on the wrong day.
I happened to notice it about 10 days before we traveled and had to rebook the return at more than the cost of the original flight before the Ding :headache:

This happened to me when I booked my son's flight on Spirit Air. I booked his return flight on the wrong day. I noticed the mistake within 15 minutes of booking :headache:

I called Customer Service and explained the situation. I asked if there was some kind of grace period or if the $60 change fee could be waived. I was told "No"

I realize that I had made the mistake but you would think since I had booked the flight 15 minutes ago, they could have waived the fee. So much for Customer Service!!!

Oh well, lesson learned - I will never fly Spirit again!!!

15 minutes and they didn't waive it? That's horrible.

I'm so greatful I got the 24 hour grace period. I'm actually going to call AirCanada too just to double confirm that I forsure am getting the money back.

Two years ago I did the same thing, but didn't realize it until at the airport to catch the return flight home!

We're big SWA fans and I'm always booking, and rebooking, and cancelling and rebooking:lmao:

So a couple years ago, DD and I show up at the airport for our flight home. I'm looking at the screens for our flight number and DD is saying our flight leaves at 7:45, when I was sure it left at 7:00AM. Finally, I pull out my boarding pass and realize that I have a ticket to go from Hartford to MCO, instead of one to take me from MCO to Hartford. I made my way to the counter shaking and thinking to myself - all the energy I put into saving money on tickets and I'm probably going to have to pay $200+ to get us on the right flight. Further confusing matters was the fact that I was actually flying BACK to MCO that night to spend another day with DH there, and then flying back to BDL the next evening! Of course, the SWA employees can see ALL your purchases and cancellations when they look at the screen, and there were probably two or three times I had adjusted these flights.

Luckily I had a VERY nice counter agent who said that since the same class of service was available, she could change the tickets for no additional fee. I was incredibly thankful. As it turned out, I think our flight was less than 1/2 full.

Anyway, now about 2 weeks before our trip, I sit with my husband and READ the itineraries to him so that two of us are double checking them.:rotfl:

But Spirit is a low-cost carrier with its own rules (okay, fine, each airline has its own rules - but they MAY vary from company to company, as did this one). Now the person with the negative experience knows that airline doesn't "work" for her. On the other hand, isn't that the airline with occasional fares under $10?
