Please help me. I'm not sure what to do. I've always dreamed of staying at the POLY, but I just bought at the SSR this week.

Our vacation is booked for Nov. 29 - Dec. 6.

Can anyone tell me how many points it would be to stay at the POLY or should I stay at a Villa? I don't have my vacation club info yet since I purchased my membership over the phone. I do know from reading DIS that there is a $95 fee to stay at another hotel.

3 adults
2 children
1 infant

I'm waitlisted for 2 days during the same timeframe for a BCV studio.

You may just want to stay at the Poly since it's your dream, and I don't know that there is any availability because this is a very popular time for DVCers to go....

I'd vote for stay with the Poly,

IMHO, GOldi

For Nov. 29 - Dec 6 (checking out on 12/6), it would cost you the following points for the Poly, garden view.

Nov. 29 (Saturday)
76 points

Nov 30 - Dec 6
37 for Sun-Thurs nights (each night), so I think that's 185 points
67 for Fri - Sat (each night), so that's 67 points

Total = 328 points + the $95 fee

That's a lot of points! You also have 3 adults and I think you would be more comfortable in a villa.

If it's any consolation, I'm giving up a 1 BR BCV cash reservation (my dream) for 8 days at Christmas, because I also bought DVC after making that reservation. We'll be at SSR instead, unless we get very lucky. We also rebooked an already made cash reservation in June at the WL for DVC points instead, but I was able to get 2 nights at VWL and 2 nights at SSR for that one.

I'm with Goldilocks. Getting those dates on points would be very difficult. With six you would need a two bedroom unless you got the one bedroom at AKV, but that is going to be a very long shot.

Keep your cash stay at the Polynesian, then make a return trip to WDW (or make one before your Polynesian trip).

For the Polynesian, depending on the view, you would spend as few as 67 points per night and as much as 123 per night.

Thank you so much. Well, that won't work anyway because I only have 160 points. Hmmm. What to do!!! Do you think I would have to go on a wait list for SSR for that week? I was told the week after Thanksgiving was a very slow time.

Or consider keeping your cash reservation at the Polynesian for the 29th and 30th. Then try for a 2 BR at your new SSR home for the remainder of the trip.

Edited to add that I saw you have 160 points. Are you planning on borrowing points for your trip? Although your group would fit in a Polynesian room, you will need a two bedroom at any DVC resort except for AKV.

You don't really have enough points to do a 2 BR villa either, unless you borrow from next year's points or got additional points as an incentive with your purchase.

Given that, you might want to consider keeping that Poly reservation. Certainly don't give it up until you are absolutely sure of what you're doing, and have another confirmed reservation in hand!

ETA: I like BCV23's idea!

It may be a fairly slow time for WDW in general, but it is a very busy time for DVC, as people that can travel take advantage of the low ponts needed in early December, and all the Christmas activities and decorations are operating.

That makes sense.

I better call tomorrow to see what I can get. I'd rather not borrow points since I plan on getting the AP and going again next year.

To be clear, I was talking about occupancy in the second paragraph.

If my calculations are correct, you would need 218 points to stay in a 2 BR at SSR from 11/30-12/6. But remove that last Friday night and you would be at 164 points. Again keeping the Polynesian for the first two nights of your trip.

Good luck and welcome home!

When I made my ressie for the POLY using my pts and dev. points just the other day they said they are waiving the $95 fee.
I didn't ask why, lol

Oh, that's good to know!! Thank you. I booked 12/5 at the All Star Suite. Now I wish I thought to keep my POLY for one of the weekend nights. I'm going to try and get OKW 2 br because it requires the least amount of points. I will have to borrow some points still. AUGH!!
