We have booked tickets online with USAir. When I purchased the tickets, it said I would need to get a seat assignment at the airport. Now I am checking the reservation and find that we have been assigned seats, but not really what we would prefer. (Not trying to be difficult, but we like two aisles across from each other). Does anyone know how to change the seats? I have looked on the web site and could not find a way to change them. Should I call USAir and ask if they could do it?
I hope someone has some experience with this!
Thanks!!

You should call. I had made a reservation for a flight in April and a friend booked separately a couple weeks later. She looked for seats that had an empty seat next to it when she booked hers online. Then I called USAir and requested that next seat, they were able to switch me.

Thanks Debbie!
I am going to call! Just thought it was weird that I couldn't see any way to get an assignment and a few days later they were given to us!:D

Typically when you can't get a seat assignment it means there aren't any left for the customer to chose from.

The airlines always hold some seats back to assign at the airport for families traveling together.

You can try calling and see if they can switch your seats but don't be surprised if they can't do anything until you get to the airport.

It is better than now at least you have seats assigned. Typically in an overbook situation those without seat assignments are the first to get bumped.

If they can't change them now just plan to get to the airport early and see what they can do.

Thanks safetymom! I was thinking the same thing. I am going to call this morning, but I won't be dissapointed if they can't change things. I'm just glad to be on the plane! Since we have a seat assignment we should not get bumped, right?

Those without seats and those who volunteer would be bumped before you.
And be sure to show up on time and get your boarding pass. If the airline has to bump involuntarily, you can lose your assigned seat (and be bumped) if you don't check in on time.

Best wishes -

The same thing happened to me yesterday. I booked online with US Air, picked seats, and when the final confirmation came up, the last leg of our trip said check in at the gate. There were plenty of seats available when I chose seats for that flight, so I called US Air. She said they had assigned me 5 seats (all in a row) and I asked her to change them to 2 rows, 2 in front and 3 in back, which we prefer because that way we get 2 window seats. she changed them no problem.. i thought it was weird too that I couldn't change it online.

Well, I was able to change the return flight seats. Not able to change the going because the flight is full! She was very nice on the phone and told me I couldn't change the seats on line because its full. Great to see everyone traveling!
Thanks! I am glad I called.:teeth:

Delta (and Song) let you make and change seat selections on line.

United lets you make seat selections on line but you must use the telephone to make a change.

Compared with United, Delta seems to have fewer seats blocked off for airport assignment, namely more passengers can do it on line.

Kimmie,

Try online check-in 24 hours before your flight. They sometimes have open seats then.
