Okay ...What is the plan. DD is 2 1/2. We have started to potty train the last few weeks. We are WDW bound end of March just before DD 3rd B'day.

What is my strategy ? It HAS to happen before our trip. Any tips ?? She is princess crazed and loves the undies.

Try doing a reward chart. Every time she goes to the potty she gets a sticker and after so many stickers she gets a prize. We did this for my son and after he got 5 stickers he got a dollar that he could put in his bank and save or go to the dollar store and pick something out. I found a website through search that had charts already made for a variety of characters. We did Elmo for my son but they did have Disney charts as well. We also told my son that he could not go to Disney World in diapers or pull ups anymore because they would not let kids his age into the parks with them on. He really wanted to go to Disney World so it worked. You can also try telling her that they no longer make diapers in her size so she needs to use the potty now.

Good luck. Be patient and do not push her she will go when she is ready.

We did the exact same thing...we traveled a month before DD's 3rd bday so the summer before we told her that the Princesses would not want to hear that she wasn't using the Potty! Worked like a charm. I would caution against telling her specifically that she has to wear big girl undies for your own comfort- especially if you are flying, you may need to still put in her pullups time to time. DD was very upset I made her wear at pullup on the plane because she was afraid the princesses might find out ;) But I was concerned that she would of course need to go the second that you weren't allowed out of your seats on the plane! Also, she may not be 100% trained at night at that point and in a hotel...you are going to want to use pullups at night!

I think I would use the princesses to your advantage and tell her she should wear her big girl panties when she sees the princesses and you never know where they will be. Or maybe reward her with a meal with the princesses at the castle if she is potty trained even if you are going to eat there anyway!

For DD18, I potty trained her by telling her they didn't make diapers for 3 year olds. On her 3rd birthday, I went to wake her up and tell her happy b-day and she said "mommy get my panties... they don't make diapers for 3 year olds". And that was the end of the diapers!!

My advice is...no pullups!! DS began potty training at 28 months and we sat him on the potty every half hour and rewarded him with candy or a sticker. He would do great, but if he got lazy would just go in the pullup. Fast forward 3 months later when he was 31 months and DD was born. We decided one day to get rid of the pullups and go to underwear. I think at that point we knew he could do it and with a newborn in diapers, we were eager to get him away from pullups. He was so excited, had a few accidents and the rest is history. He hated feeling wet and knew he couldn't pee in the underwear. Eventhough we had a newborn in the house, he didn't regress at all, something everyone told me he would do. He started pooping on the potty shortly thereafter and our last two Disney trips were diaper free for DS:cool1: . He will be 3 in November. Good luck on your journey. It's great to be done with diapers.:goodvibes

ETA when we flew on the plane we put a pullup over DS's underwear so he wouldn't have an accident in his car seat. But he stayed dry everytime!

After months of working with our son, the only thing that finally worked was having him walk around the house naked. A couple days later, he was potty trained permanently. We knew he could do it, he was just being lazy. My daughter had decided a couple weeks ago that she is ready, but we haven't really been working with her since we leave to for Disney in two days. We didn't want to be in the middle of potty training when we go, so we decided to wait until we come back. However, we probably could have started her on potty training after all since she is doing it all on her own right now and doing quite well.

I agree on the no pullups. Just get rid of diapers/pullups (except maybe at night and/or naps) and then prepare for what happens. Likely there will be some accidents so have carpet cleaner and rags on hand. Have some sort of reward on hand too. Then just stick to it! I'm a big believer in that all kids (except those with some sort of delay) are ready by age 2 - it is the parents who REALLY need to be ready to do it, because it is so tempting to give in and throw a diaper back on if it's a bad day.

Both of my boys trained in days once we commited to it. DS was just 2 and DGS was 32 months. The thing that worked with me was just deciding that we were going to stick with it and stay in there 100%. WE ditched the diapers and pull ups and went straight to underwear. We did pull ups for night for a short time but they both got it pretty quick as well. I tried the reward system for about a day with DGS with we both got tired of it real quick. I think just being sure they are ready, and then deciding it is time. I tok them potty about every 1/2 hour to start and if there was a accident, just cleaned it up and went on. Good luck, march is a long time away.

A big heads up regarding newly potty trained little ones and WDW.... there are no restrooms close to many of the bus stops outside WDW parks. You should always take your child to the restroom as you exit the park and are on your way to the bus stop. Otherwise, you may find yourself tired, waiting for your bus, with a toddler who "has to go NOW!". In which case, you may become one of those bad mommy's who lets her child go tinkle behind the bushes. Ask me how I know.

I PT'd 2 kids at 2 1/2 in uner a week. Nakey butt, potty in the room, if more than 2 accidents, go back to diapers (not ready - ds6 failed the test, his twin passed, I revisited pting him at 2 3/4, he passed, was trained in a few days then). Once she's 100% nakey butt trained (usually 1 - 3 days), pants without underwear (which feel like diapers). Once she's 100% with pants (a couple days) LOOSE underwear. I used pullups when we went out (stayed mostly at home during this week), but explained they were not for peeing (and they usually stayed dry).

I also used the traditional underwear route with my 2 oldest, and it took months (and they were 3 already)!

That's us too. Though, we've not started, really. And the trip is in Jan. She keeps telling us "I not ready." We even have a book about the princess and her potty.

I think I have to do the straight to underwear thing too, but I work and the weekends are equally crazy. But I have to do it.

And I'm afraid if I let her run around naked, I'll never get the kid dressed again!

LOL - just naked on the bottom! And for most of us who have done it, it's a miracle method.

I have to agree with the no diapers/pullups. We just put our DD in princess panties and shirt. Then set the timer for every 15 minutes. Timer goes off we try to go potty. DD was potty trained in a weekend. We have lots of friends that this has worked for them as well. Hope this helps. :goodvibes

If DD has to have just a shirt and underwear on, I guarantee it will be just a matter of time before I have a naked child. You laugh, but sadly, she may be destined for a "pole" one day if you know what I mean. (Just Kidding!)

DH might have to work this weekend. The weather is supposed to be yucky, at least on Sat. We were going to go to the zoo, but maybe you've all inspired me to try a little harder.

She's very stubborn though, so it may be a battle of wills. I tried the underwear one day over the summer. After breakfast. Put a towel on the couch. Sat and watched TV for something like 2 hours (maybe we watched a movie). Nothing. No accident or anything. Well, then it was time to leave so I had to put a diaper back on. But she didn't learn anything. Figures.

My son does still use pull ups and they stay dry almost all of the time. We just told him that Disney did not allow pull ups as well so that he would use the potty and not just go in the pull up. He was determined not to use the potty and to remain a baby. :) Even though he was getting to be much to old to still be in diapers. With him it was just the fear of the unknown holding him back as well as being busy with playing and not wanting to take the time to go potty. It took us putting him on the potty and making him sit there for awhile before he started going on his own.

Just a warning -- I could have written your post about our eldest DD. On our last trip to disney in March she was 18 months and had been really interested in potty training in the weeks leading up to our trip. We thought we were so lucky because she was basically training herself. We, too, didn't want to be in the middle of potty training at WDW, so we decided we would pick up when we got back and not push it to completion then. Of course, when we got back she was no longer interested and refused to get on the potty.

Fast foward -- DD now just turned 2 a couple of weeks ago and she is FINALLY interested again. We did pretty well today - we almost went an entire day without any accidents. I'm hoping that she will be completely trained by our next trip in February.
