Booked FP+ for the first time - Did I do it right?

I was busy the night before I had to book my FP+ reservations....so I had to rush to make the FP+ reservations. Luckily, I had planned where my family will be going from day to day with the exception of one night and when I'd likely arrive at the park ( mostly mornings but some during the early afternoon or late afternoon ).

The only problem was that I hadn't really thought of when to book which rides.

Quickly going through it, I decided to simply book the most popular ride based off of the earliest times when I arrive there....then immediately getting the regular fast pass when I get to the ride. That way, I can plan to go back on the ride twice. Since we will be going to each of the Parks twice ( except HS )....I pretty much followed the same game plan.

How is your approach to doing the 60+ day FP+ reservations?

Did I do it right?

or

Is there a better strategy and/or approach?

The regular fastpass? You do know that you can only get FP+ now right? You no longer go to rides for fastpasses but visit kiosks set up around the parks.

There are many ways to do this and a lot depends on how busy the parks are IMO. I personally prefer to plan FP+ around late morning because then we can use rope drop to ride a few things and still hopefully get fourth and fifth fastpasses that are decent. Of course not everyone wants to deal with rope drop and that makes a difference too.

Unfortunately, there are no more regular fast passes, only FP+. You would have to use the first 3 in order to get another from one of the kiosks in the parks.

I haven't experienced FP+ yet, but from what I've read from other posts is if you plan on doing rope drop, just ride standby for the first hour or two and then start with your FP+.

It all comes down to what works best for your family.

I guess great minds think alike. Lol

Last month was my first trip with FP+, we debated what the best strategy would be for us. We are morning people who want to ride as many rides as possible. Most days we were planning on getting to the parks at rope drop, and booked our 3 FP+ in the 10am/11am/12pm timeframes for the most popular rides. We wanted to be done with our first 3 FP early so we could use the kiosks to get additional FP as early in the day as possible.

The following link from mesaboy2 has lots of great info on FP+

I did this too, but I did run into situations where I didn't need our FPs that early. If there was only a short wait, then everyone went into standby.

As others have stated, there are many ways to do this. We did rope drop and booked ours for the first 3 hours of the morning. We saved our 3rd for a ride where standby would be difficult, like 7DMT. For our other 2, if we had them scheduled close in location, such as splash and thunder mt., we did some standby of any ride or 2, both of our fast pass choices on standby, used our 1st FP for one of these rides, then our second FP window seemed ready to open. For us, it worked as a way to get multiple rides on some headliners without too much walking. We would then have the rest of the day open for some of the easier to pick up fast passes. As others have stated, depending on crowd levels this may not be the best strategy as many rides have shorter standby lines anyway at rope drop, but we were traveling during a high crowd season and this worked well for us.

I just did it for the first time too. I did them for the morning hours because we might take an afternoon break (I want to stay until closing) and later in the day our group of 9 might not want to stick together. Our first one starts at 8:20 - 9:20 and then the other two are closer to noon.
