has anybody ever heard of bookcrossing.com?

just back from the grocery store where I came across a book in the frozen foods section. it had a note on it stating that it was free, not lost, to go ahead and take it, read it, and leave it somewhere for the next person to find and continue. there was more info inside about bookcrossing.com, where you can track a books travels.

what a fun idea! I know I was tickled. and definitely appreciated the books title...A Frozen Woman. the person who left it obviously has a sense of humor.

has anybody else come across a book like this, or is familiar with the site at all?

I know that site and have participted it it.

I found a book with that information in it in, and I kid you not, the book shelf in the OKWest @ Disney. (They have books that you can read while you are in Disney!) I admit, I did keep that book and then released it but I did add to the OKW library by leaving the book I had finished and put the note about releasing it.

I think it is a hoot about where your book was "left" Definately someone who was really into the whole process. I will have to keep that in mind the next time I leave a book someplace.

That is so exciting!!! I think that website is awesome and I've never found a book, but I'm all giddy knowing that someone else did :goodvibes

I love it too! I often find boks at the train station, I rearely take the train, and I always have a book, since finding the bookcrossing, I always take extra books with me!!

I've heard of bookcrossing but I don't participate because I belong to paperbackswap.com, and many members there won't take books with bookcrossing labels on them.

I read about bookcrossing a few years back in a magazine article. I checked out the site and I released a book at my college campus. The book I released was a essay collection by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I sort of forgot about bookcrossing and haven't released any books since then. I do want to release more but I'm not sure what to release.

I'm curious why people on the paperbackswap site won't take bookcrossing books?

It sounds liek a really neat idea. There are several books I have ended up with duplicates of. I've thought about either donating them or taking them to a used book store for some cash, but admittedly some of them are not in the best condition and would probably be trashed (although they are still perfectly readable). I might just have to release them.
