I read Dana Carpender's "How I Gave Up My Low-Fat Diet and Lost 40 Pounds" book this weekend! Wow - what a great book! It explains so many things - in such a simple (and humurous!) way!

This book is great for people on (or thinking about) low-carb diets, as well as people on low-fat or other types of diets! She really explains how fat, carbs, sugars, and chemicals react in your body to make you gain or lose weight! I highly recommend it! ::yes::

I have this book and often go back to re-read it. I've given copies to friends and relatives who have appreciated it.

I'd give this book two thumbs up and would highly recommend it. Dana's writing style is funny and informative. She is not preachy and she explains things in a way that makes them easy to understand.

I haven't bought any of her cookbooks yet, but may splurge for one soon. Does anyone else have any of her cookbooks?

I bought her "500 recipes" cookbook this weekend too! I can't wait to start trying it out!! Tonight I'm making "Joe" which she says is hers and dh's favorite one-pan recipe. I don't have the exact recipe with me, but basically it's sauteed hamburger, fresh spinach, cheese, and eggs - all scrambled together (with some spices). I'll let you know how it turns out!

I have her 500 recipes book. I've made chicken florentine - Yum!, tilapia on a bed of vegetables - good, Swiss loaf - probably won't do it again, but I am not a huge Swiss cheese fan, Parmesan baked fish - very good, a pork chop recipe with a mustard sauce - vrey good. I have also used her coleslaw dressing which is good. I did have one complete disaster. I made the cheese popovers. I ground my own almond flour and obviously I shouldn't have used my salted almonds. The muffins were so salty. I just bought some plain almonds so I can try this one again! I enjoy reading her comments with the recipe.

Thanks, Rhonda, for the heads up! I will have to check this book out, sounds interesting! :)

I read this book but foolishly gave it to my husband's aunt. I wish I had held on to it. It was very enlightening :)

This sounds like a great book! I'm going to check and see if our library has it.

Thanks Rhonda,

I checked this book out at our local library yesterday and it is really interesting.

However, reading it has me concerned. At my last physical my cholestrol was 154. I was proud of myself until I read in her book that a cholestrol level that is too low(under 170) can cause problems.

I never heard that before, in fact my doctor did not even address it. I'm going to call the doctor next week to find out if I should be concerned and if so should I try to raise my cholestrol level.

Thanks for the information.
