Book two reservations that overlap?

I have a family member that might be able to go with us during our vacation. However, she also might only be able to go the week before. We tried to book at the same time but work interfered. So her current reservations are a week before ours with one overlapping day.

Could her and her family make a 2nd reservation, in the meantime, that overlaps with her first, just in case she is able to get out of work? So a 2nd reservation during our week? And have both booked until she figures it out? Or would the system cancel/interfere with the first reservation (what she is scared this will happen and she will lose her current promotion).

This would be a package with reservation, parks and dining.

I tried a couple of months ago to book a second reservation not knowing work/flight dates yet and they wouldn't let me.
The only thing you can do is book it for the extra day(s) in one reservation and then cancel what you don't need when it gets closer and plans finalize.
The downside to this, and why I wanted to do two is that when you call to cancel they could tech say there isn't availablity for the dates you now want.
Doesn't make sense I know but they do it

I would book the second package without the overlapping day and hopefully she'd be able to add on the one day later if needed.
