Do people book a room only Reservation and then call and change when any discounts get released, or just wait?
This would be for the end of Aug 2021

if we really want a high-demand time frame we always book room only first to secure the reservation, then change it later when discounts and deals are released

We booked for June 2021... we knew we wanted a lagoon view at the Grand a Floridian, and since we had to cancel this June2020 trip (booked, cancelled, rebooked, cancelled again) we needed something happy and positive. So I say, book it And have something fun to look forward to! :earsboy::earsboy::earsboy:

Just keep in mind, discounts are offered to increase occupancy. If there are enough standard bookings, there won't be a need to offer any discounts at a specific resort during a specific period.

This ^^^. If you will go regardless of whether or not you get a discount, it makes sense to book now to get exactly what you want. If you will only go with a discount, it's better to wait and see what (if any) discounts are offered for your dates. If you do book now and a discount comes out later, what you have booked must be available under the discount in order to have it applied. With that said, sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort and/or room type as having a reservation in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied.

I book the room the moment we've chosen a date and are able to book. I can add promotions or make changes later and it helps avoid missing out on the resort we want due to some unknown situation making the resort more popular at a certain time than we would have guessed. :)

This spring was the first time we booked a room before the discounts were released. Sure enough, when discounts were released, our room type/resort wasn't eligible and we ended up changing it (before it was all cancelled that is). For our rebooked trip this August, we did what we normally do and "shopped" the best deal based on the discounts. I like that better--that way I know I have the best combination of resort we like, room type, and price.

If there is only one resort/room category you want, then book ahead; otherwise you might as well be flexible.

This! By booking ahead at rack rate you are reducing your chances of any discount. I won’t pay rack rate so I don’t book without a discount. When discounts come out doesn’t guarantee your room category or resort will be included in the discount released.

We are booked for January. Don't know of any reason to wait if you have the funds for the deposit.
Agreed! Us too! Especially since the marathon sold out so fast! Getting what I want is more important than a discount. I also believe everyone is going to be clamoring to book with things being closed, so there will be such a limited availability on discounted rooms regardless.

I booked us for May 2021 with my TA. She'll apply whatever discount I can get when the time comes. I knew what I wanted and didn't want to chance it being sold out later with all of the people moving trips.

ETA you have to be 499 days out to do it.

Good point! I didn’t think about that.

You can check out historical discounts and see there’s a trend, the hotels I see as discounted pretty regularly are Pop,AOA,CSR etc..:) I’d say if you book one of these ahead of time you can count on applying the discount to it. I’ve had good luck with this:)

How many days (months) out do dates typically show up on the Disney website?
