I was thinking of getting a WDW book for DD9 for our upcoming trip but didn't want to ruin the magic for her with too many details.

I was looking at The Complete WDW Fun Finds & Hidden Mickeys which has a boatload of factoids but then thought maybe I should stick with a book on hidden Mickeys only.

Would love any recommendations or thoughts on this topic.

Thanks!!!

My girls enjoyed reading Secrets of Walt Disney World published by Sterling Children's Books. It has a lot of construction details like biggest roller coaster on property, how long it took to build a particular attraction, how many different animals are in AK, and other tidbits that preserve the magic. One entry for Magic Kingdom reads "Magic Kingdom is actually on the second floor of the park. The first floor is filled with tunnels known as utilidors. They were built first and then covered from dirt left over from building the Seven Seas Lagoon. In these utilidors, deliveries are made, cast members get ready, and garbage is taken away." It is organized by park, includes the water parks, and has some fun quizzes and games, too. Cost was around $10 and it is hardback.

When my son was 10 he loved the Hidden Mickeys book. Is your DD into trivia? If not, and you'll not be sharing the book, go with the Hidden Mickeys one. She'll have fun finding them in the park. But if she loves bits of trivia and you think it will enhance her appreciation, then get the other one.

BTW, my DS took the book with him into the parks. While we were standing in line, he'd fish it out and look for hidden mickeys that were supposed to be nearby.

My DD was 8 when we first gave her Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids: Official Guide. She read it cover to cover and often goes back to read it after vacation just for fun. Its certainly appropriate through age 12 or so and has spots in the back for autographs.

Another alternative is the Kingdom Keepers series. They're fictional stories set in the parks. Lots of insider info and the settings alone have my kids (8 yo) just chomping at the bit to get back so they can check out all of the areas talked about. Its kind of a fun way to learn about the parks within a fictional tale that is also a pretty fun read.

Oh yes, the Kingdom Keepers was really good. I read it to both my boys, as none of us could wait for the others to get through it.

My kids loved the Guide To The Magic For Kids.

I'll second this one - even if you save it for like two weeks before the trip. It gives info about each ride, has stickers (thumbs up, thumbs down, I did it, etc.), gives some trivia, has places to journal and pages for autographs. I got them for my boys three years ago. I got new ones for this trip, not necessarily because things have changed, but because they make a great keepsake!

This thread got me interested in behind the scenes/fun facts books for ME! I was actually surprised how many choices there were on Amazon. Anyone have book suggestions for adults? I'm not really interested in hidden Mickeys. Thanks!
