Book now or wait?

DH and I are planning on going back to Disney World but we aren't going until December (it feels soooooo far away!). We want to go from Sun Dec 16- Friday Dec 21 and are pretty sure we want to stay at the Fort Wilderness cabins. Is it better to book it now or is it better to wait a bit? What if we book it now and some sort of discount comes up? Do discounts ever even come up for December?

Because you are going the week before Christmas, you may still stand a chance of getting a discount. You can book a room only reservation now (with one night's stay as deposit) and apply a room only discount if one becomes available at a later date. If you book a package (room, tix, and dining), the deposit will be $200. If a package discount comes out, then you could apply if there are discounts available for FW Cabins.

I would book now with a room only reservation. The week before Christmas can get somewhat busy as well and since you know you want to stay in a specific resort, I would snatch it up now. You will only have to put down a first night's deposit.

You can apply discounts or upgrade to a package within 45 days of arrival. Don't expect to see many rooms discounted that close to Christmas.

Since you know your dates and where you want to stay, I would book now to be sure you get what you want as December is a very popular time. Getting a discount is hit or miss as Disney seems to be scaling back on discounts this year, but you never know when a deal might be released. If you book a room only now and decide to change to a package later, the room only will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit (or payment in full if you're less than 45 days from arrival). The same would go for changing from a package to room only as money cannot be transferred between the two. Happy planning :wizard:.

If you book a room only rate and then want to upgrade to a package deal, they will refund your money and redo the reservation, just so you know. Throw some tickets on there just so you have a package deal if you are hoping for anything other than a room rate discount.

quick question: Can you afford the booking now and still be able to do all that you want while there? (ie: Ask yourself this question, Do I absolutely need the discount to make it work or will possibly missing out on staying where I want when I want be more upsetting to me?)

If you are like me and you save well ahead of time to make the trip happen, thus making money not really the issue, then I would book it now while you can guarantee the place at the time desired.

We always book way in advance and when/if a promo becomes available during our stay we have been able to get it by calling. One trip we got free dining after it was extended into our trip time frame. And one other time a PIN code came in the mail for the time we booked. Our TA called and got the difference credited to our CC.

Thanks! It sounds like everyone pretty much agrees to go ahead and book now :) We will go at that time and stay at that resort regardless of whether a discount comes up or not. I would just hate to see something come up and not be able to take advantage of it!

Thanks again!
