We are going to Disney Aug. 15. Our home resort is Animal Kingdom, but I fell in love with Boardwalk. We are going to Disney before a cruise so we have very specific days that we would need. Is it possible to book AK at 11 months and then transfer to BWV at 7 months? What would be our chances of a reservation at BWV being available the third week in Aug.?
:confused3

if you need a room at wdw, book AKV at 11 months out.

yes, it is not unusual to try to switch resorts at 7 months out (i.e. cancel and rebook) - it just depends on whether BWV owners have booked up all the rooms or not.

august is not a really tough period for DVC demand and your best bet for trying to get BWV is to book a preferred view (pool/garden) at 7 months out. (standard view rooms and boardwalk view rooms tend to be more popular among BWV owners).

If the cruise you are going on is the DVC Member Cruise, it may be harder because lots of members stay at WDW before and after, still, I think you will be OK if you book at 7 months.

For this year, and through a waitlist I was able to get a standard view 1 bedroom at BLT for the night before the Member Cruise. Through a waitlist, I was also able to get a BCV studio for 2 nights afterwards.

I booked these about 3 months out, our original plans for before and after fell through.

make sure you have a room and book at 11 months then try to switch. Unless you can't for some reason

Third week of August is a low demand period for DVC, so chances to find a room at BWV are very high (garden view). However I agree with every other poster: book now a room and then switch at 7 months. Better safe than sorry.

For our stay starting 8/12/14 in a 2BR @ BWV only preferred pool/garden was available at 7 months out.

We own at AKV. Regardless of time of year, we always book at 11 at AKV and then At 7 call Member Services to book (or wait list) our desired resort if we are choosing to stay elsewhere.

If you find availability exactly at 7 months, there is a better way to book.

If you have enough points, book the 7 month reservation first and then cancel your original reservation.

The reason for that is that right at 7 months there will be a lot of switching and rebooking going on. It is possible that you could cancel your original ressie to free up the points, and while you are doing that, the preferred 7 month ressie could be snapped up by someone else. AND...your original reservation at your home resort could also be snagged by someone on waitlist -- leaving you with NOTHING!

In relation to chances for BWV at 7 months out for third week of Aug, be aware that pool/garden view was available in 2013 and 2014 but standard and boardwalk view had multiple nights gone during that week before 7 months out.

Agree with others - I always book my home resort at 11 months and then switch if I want to at 7.

I booked BWV for last June and just booked it again for next April (around Easter time), studio. My home is SSR. I just waited and booked BWV with no issues. In fact, since I went on at 8AM I got BW view for our June trip. I have garden/pool view for April.
I just figured if whatever we wanted was gone we would book SSR at that 7 month window, since it is never sold out that far in advance.

We own at OKW. OKW, SSR, and AKV are the largest DVC's, so they fill up last. I just wait until 7 mths and book online at 8AM at a non-home resort. (If I was booking something like Xmas, I'd likely book 11 mths out at my home resort--but non-peak DVC times the 7mths should be fine!)
