Book a new reservation without losing the old one?

I am going to try on Sunday 6/30 to book a studio (standard view) at VGF for Oct 30-Nov 3. We currently have a reservation at AKL for those dates.

I don't have enough points to book the VGF without cancelling AKL...is there a way I can "hold" my VGF room, then cancel AK Lodge while still holding VGF?

What I don't want to happen is verify that VGF is available, I jump over to cancel my AK room, jump back over to get VGF and find it unavailable and then I've lost my AK reservation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Nope. That's the risk. Only way to do it 100% safe- is to borrow next years points, book new reservation, then cancel the night on existing reservation after. And if you don't need those points for something else in current use year, bank them into next year. Of course you have to be within banking window on current year points for this to work.

If you cancel the current night reservation first, you risk losing both. So decide how valuable the change is to you. I just did this a couple days ago to book vgf. For me it was worth it, but I know for next year I will have less flexibility, as I will be using banked 2013 points.

Thanks. I am completely borrowed when I made this reservation so that's not even an option. I'll have to assess the risk!

Have the rooms been completely booked up in the first 5 minutes of the window??

If you're fully borrowed out from next use year's points, I would be keeping what you have. Unless you don't mind paying cash for a standard reservation when you lose both DVC options. Good luck either way.

As to how quick it books, I don't think there's enough data to realistically answer. It only opened up on Sunday after all. But understand that it could be fully booked for your dates already, by other members who booked longer trips starting earlier than your date. So again, no way I would try to change in your circumstance.

Being fully borrowed I don't know if this will work but I have done this: Go to online booking and search for what you want, if it's available click on book this reservation, call member services ask them to check cancel your reservation and book your new one. If they say your new one is not available tell them you have one locked up, release it and have him refresh and he should then see it. Worked for us. I don't know if when he cancels if you can complete your locked up reservation because I don't know if you can refresh the locked up points without backing out and losing what you were holding. This has to all be done in the time frame before the Web site times you out for inactivity.

Thanks! I know the days are currently available (I pulled up 10/25 and look 7 days out)...as for if they are available when we want to book - who knows.

I know that SSR is available those days so I think the chances of me being locked out completely are slim but I would be upset to lose my AK reservation.

Decisions, decisions!

I have been waitlisted one night at BWV for 10/7 or two nights BCV for 10/7 and 10/8 since the 7 month mark. I already have BWV for 10/3 to 10/7 which I booked at the 11 months, but decided to add two more days. Don't mind a split stay and yesterday noticed a one bedroom available at BLT for the two nights I needed. I needed the points from my BWV reservation from 10/8 (which were borrowed points, Feb use year) in order to book the two nights. I held the BLT rooms and logged into DVC from another screen and cancelled by BWV. I then closed it and refreshed my screen with the BLT and my points were available. I was able to book BLT without any issue:thumbsup2. I was so afraid of losing those nights as that time of year is so busy and I need to start booking airfare. It worked out perfectly:thumbsup2

If you call MS, they may be able to do it. It might take a supervisor though.
