POLY LAGOON CONCIERGE - 5 nights. A resort my DH & I always wanted to stay at and we're glad we did. 3 yr old DS favorite. I didn't find the themeing to be outdated. I just took it for what it was supposed to be a south seas resort. The pool is beautifully themed and
zero entry was great with little guys, babies loved to sit and splash and` 3 yr old alternated between volcano pool and the spitting fountain area kids love to run through. He loved pretending to swim by walking with his hands along bottom of pool. We had a 1st fl patio which we enjoyed. Dh would get us "grown up" nite time drinks and DS chocolate milk and we'd watch electrical parade from our patio or walk out on the beach. My son thought the electrical parade was just for him. Every night he'd get very excited. Of course the #1 attraction of the Poly - THE MONORAIL !!! OMG this was the greatest thing better than Buzz Lightyear,Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh or Mickey's Philharmagic. He loved riding it, watching it from below where he could watch the wheels propell the monorail. We'd guess which color monorail would come next. He got to ride up front 3x and got 3 Jr Licenses. He was in heaven. We had to play monorail. Are you getting the idea that the monorail was a big hit. He thought it was really cool that it went through the Contemporary. He told us he wants to stay there next time. Dh loved Ohana's and Kona for what else Tonga Toast. Only negative for me was no hot tubs but it certainly won't stop me from coming back. Rating A

AKL SAVANNAH CONCIERGE - My dh & I went to Africa for our honeymoon so of course this is a sentimental favorite. I did not find the rooms particularly dark. Nor did DH. It was awesome to be able to look out your balcony and see zebra & giraffe. The lodge was designed by the same architect as the Wilderness Lodge. Both have huge impressive lobbys and really draw you into their themes. The pool like the poly was zero entry which we really liked. And a nice hot tub. The concierge lounge I think was nicer and the offerings a notch above the Poly (and I really enjoyed the poly). AKL by virtue of what it is supposed to be -- a game reserve is isolated. This can be very soothing and revitalizing at the end of a long hectic vacation. There are so many activities that the ldge is a destination in and of itself. Cookie decorating at Boma, animal guides day & night, story telling, sunrise & sunset safari the list goes on. A great end to our journey Rating A

Hope this helped. Any questions I'd be glad to ask. I will review restaurants and concierge offerings on restaurant bb. A last note I'd encourage people to try different resorts, each has its own charms and you'll never realize them if you are a one resort family. JMHO

Thanks for the great reviews. :) It sounds like you all had a wonderful vacation. :wave2:

Your post made me so excited because we will be splitting our stay between these 2 resorts. If you had to choose, which resort would you say was your favorite of the 2? Also, did you think the concierge was worth the money? I've heard so many different opinions on this, but all in all it sounds like it's totally worth it. Any suggestions for special things to see or do at the Poly? I've heard lots about AKL but not so much about Poly yet. Thanks!

We have stayed Poly concierge in the past and we are staying AKL concierge soon. So far, the concierge staff at AKL has been sooo helpful. They have been keeping in touch and answer any emails very promptly. With the Poly concierge staff, I felt like I had to drag info out of them for any type of help. So far, AKL has the edge in my head-to-head comparison! :)

Anyway, I was wondering if you could tell me if the AKL concierge rooms have refrigerators? If not, can they be requested and if so, is there a charge?

Also, you sould like you were happy with your room/savannah view, where specifically was it located? Was it non-smoking? What kind of beds did you have? We were told we would have one queen, a set of bunks and a daybed. Can't wait.

Any other tidbits?

Thanks!

Zip- I really loved oth. And he great thing about them wasthat the Poly was so convienant to MK & Epcot. And the AKL was to AK (of course) and MGM. But if someone held a gun to my head I'd say the AKL had the edge over the poly..the room,& food was better. But I'd rather do both.
Poly has torch lighting and arts & crafts for the kids everyday but we spent lots of time at the pool. They give you a newsletter when you check in to tell you all the activities.'

Partyof5- We had a 5th floor savannah view. It had a kingbed and a daybed. It was 4 doors down from the vice presidental suite( I think #5415). I requested to be near the lobby b/c with 3 small kids I didn't want a hike to go anywhere. We still had plenty of animals. I had a refrig and as the trip was paid off before we went I'm sure we weren't charged for it. My DH is still whining about missing "his" espresso machine. Check out the new sunset safari it sounds wonderful. You go at dusk ,have cocktails with a giaffe and dinner at Jiko.

We are splitting our 8 nite stay between Poly Concierge and
AKL concierge coming up very SOON!! I'm so excited, I've never
stayed in concierge, so I'm hoping it will be fabulous! We have
a family of 5, so it's harder to find a place to stay...so I got AP
rates at both concierges, so I said "What the heck let's give
it a try!!" I'll be asking for bunkbeds with a daybed because of
our size.I know alot of other posts complained of the views of
the animals on the concierge floor, but I'm just grateful to be
there! I know nothing about AKL or POLY, so this will be something totally different for us. I suspect we might be spending
more time at the resorts than before...(My Kids and DH usually
call me the "Nazi Park Mom") I'm planning on relaxing a bit more
this time! Would love any other comments on what to do at
the 2 resorts!
Thanks

Thanks for the great info! Sounds like we're doing the right thing by staying at both resorts. I can't wait for our trip. I wish it wasn't so far off! I think it will be worth the wait though.

Jill- make sure you make a conscious effort to slow down and enjoy the resorts especially the AKL. Its so unique and has so much to offer as I said before its a destination in itself. Make sure you avail yourself of all it has to offer. Enjoy.

TwingleMum,
Thanks for all of your comments!
I'm really looking forward to spending relaxing time
(if that's possible with 3 boys..LOL) at both resorts.
I'm glad we've been to WDW several times now and
we know our way around! Can't Wait!!

Jill- I have 3 boys also (3 1/2 and 1 yr old twins) Boma does cookie decorating at 1 pm check it out. You going to love AKL and the poly. I haven't met a little boy yet who didn't love the monorail. Make sure you ask if you can ride up front its really cool. You & DH will have to take turns though they only let 4 up front at a time.

My boys are 8,12 and 14 so they're a little easier to manage...
I admire you for taking those little boys on these fun trips...
We've always done that and now even the 14 year old still
loves to go on vacation with old folks...LOL!
WDW is such a great family place, there's something for
everyone and you're always treated like royalty!
AKL ,Poly and being at WDW at Christmas will be yet another new adventure for us.Can't wait to have the Monorail so close!
