Book 2 cabins, sleep in 1?

Just curious, from reading another post I seem to read that people have booked balcony cabins for 4 as well as an inside cabin, but had everyone sleep in the balcony room. For curiosity sake, I priced out the difference between a cat 4 vs. a cat 7 and a cat 12, for a savings of aprox $500 going with the two rooms. My point was that if you were not comfortable with either having your kids sleep alone or sleeping apart from your spouse, could everyone just sleep in the one room?

To clarify, we are a family of 5 with the youngest being 2 and still using a pack and play at this point, so the bed situation would not be an issue. Probably we would NOT do this, as I don't know if saving such a relatively small amount of $$ for what could be a hassle or something that disney strictly prohibits.

Anyhoo, I am still here plugging away at trying to figure out the best way for our family of 5 to have the best cruise for the best price. To be honest, I have gotten much better rates for RCCLs Mariner out of Port Canaveral than from DCL, so that may be the way we're headed. Oh well, the wheels keep spinning!!

Anyone?

I know this must be a common problem as not everyone fits into the "family of 4" category.

Just lookin for ideas!

One factor that you may want to consider is that Cat. 7 only sleeps 3 people instead of 4. Another thing about Cat. 7 is that it has navigator balcony instead of the transparent balcony. You little ones can't see the sea without you lifting them up.

Hope that helps.

I can't exactly help, but...

We booked 2 Cat 10's for our trip last month instead of 1 Cat 4 (kids are 10, 8, 6) and the deciding factor was the TWO BATHROOMS!!! I considered one inside one outside, but wanted connecting rooms.

In the future, I might consider one in- and one outside cabin and just put DH and I in separate rooms. I mean, it wasn't too romantic listening to the kids snoring, anyway!! :earboy2: :earseek: :earboy2:

PattiPB, too funny! I agree that with the 4 of us in the cabin last time, it was not exactly "romantic." I would have to price out both options to see what would work the best. I just know that my kids are way to young to be sleeping alone in a stateroom that was not connected.

11 california, thanks for the info on the cat 7s. Since we never really considered the veranda rooms I don't think I ever paid attention to the difference in them. That is something to keep in mind! I just keep looking at the bottem line ($$)!

We are a party of 4. Myself, DW and DDs14 and 12. We booked 2 rooms for the first time for our last sailing (11/20/04 Western) and wouldn't have it any other way....it was about 75.00 more dollars but DDs were able to sleep late and I was able to get up early and sit on the verandah without hearing "hey close the drapes, I'm trying to sleep".

What about getting a cat 7 or 6 plus the cat 11 accross the hall from it and "connect" the two rooms via a baby monitor?

If you don't have to have a verandah, you may want to consider cat8+cat12 or cat9+cat12 (assuming that you want oceanview. cat 8 and cat 9 are oceanview rooms that sleeps 4).

If you are really lucky, you can get two connecting SPRs (cat10 rooms that have partial ocean view).

Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. HooKooDooKu, the baby monitor idea, while a good one, won't fly for us, just because I have nervous nelly kids! Even when I spoke about connecting rooms, they were all worried that the door would stay open, even asking whether one of us would sleep with them in that room, etc. so I don't think the room across the hall will work unless Mom and Dad sleep apart or we all squeeze together "illegally" in one cabin. Most likely I will try for two connecting inside cabins.

And yes, I did think about 2 SPRs! I just know that one can be hard to get, never mind 2 and then making sure they are connecting! Seems like a tall order, but we shall see.

Thanks again for all the input!
