Boo to MSN Travel for posting AK as #11 onit s 15 places to avoid in the world as tourist traps. AK is NotAZoo!!! HEr is what some tupid Jon guy had to say..

11. Orlando: Animal Kingdom

We're bound to raise the hackles of Disney-lovers with this choice. But we can't help feeling like $67 (the price of a one-day adult admission ticket) is too much to pay for a theme park that, aside from a couple of shows and roller coasters, is essentially just a zoo. If you're going to plunk down that much cash for your family at Disney, we think you're better off at the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT. And for kids who are interested in animals other than the Mouse, we recommend the Central Florida Zoo, where you'll see hundreds of critters for under $10 per person.

Have to agree with you - I LOVE Animal Kingdom; it is my favorite park. Of course, I also think that it is some what deceptive when articles of this sort refer to the one day admission. Yes, that is what it is (and that is very high), but most folks buy multiple day tickets which brings the admission per day price way down.

That person obviously doesn't get AK. A couple shows and roller coasters?

I do think a lot of Disney lovers would agree that spending $67 to go to AK alone would not be worth it. And most of us would agree that if you were going to spend $67 and go to only one park, AK would be the wrong choice. But very few people buy 1 day Disney tickets and even fewer visit AK only. So when you look at it as adding more variety to a Disney visit and really only spending $20-$40 depending on which tickets you buy, it's definitely worthwhile.

Yay! More room and shorter lines for me! :)

*blinks*

All I can think of is all the people I know who went to AK and never even GLANCED at an animal past KS and had a great time . . . .

Having never been with our trip quickly approaching, does anyone share the reviewers thoughts? We will of course go, but I'm wondering whether we need to schedule a full day or a half day. Thanks!

How long is your vacation, and how much access do you have to a quality wildlife park? For example, we skip the animal trails and such because we're a few hours from Henry Doorly Zoo, which frankly blows the AK animal exhibits out of the water. We can do AK's rides in a few hours, but if we do all the shows as well as the rides, it takes a full day.

I think this guy's off his rocker. Animal Kingdom is, in my humble opinion, the best themed of the Disney parks. It may not have as many attractions as the other parks, but it's getting there--slowly but surely.

The park is amazing. Everywhere you look there's something captivating- the immense lushness of the whole place, the incredible friendliness of the castmembers, the joyousness of Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade- even the cracks in the pavement are perfect (my personal favorites are the footprints of children stewn throughout the walkways in Asia). This park is also the only one of the WDW parks where I know I can find a spot that makes me feel like I'm the only person (or one of a very few people) in the area. Gorgeous. My favorite park, hands down.

I ALWAYS do at least one full AK day. Ilove the festivalof the Lion King, Dinosaur and CAli Rapids. We love the African street performers and the Safari is a must do. I can't wait to try EE in December when I go. I am also looking forward to the new Nemo show. I thik the parade blows stars and motorcars away (I think that is the lamest parade in all the WORLD and LAND).

Plus, who can resist the chocolate covered frozen banana?? NOT ME!

That is my AK treat, MK is caramel Apple, MGM...I have to discover one and WS..I eat around the world, although I hear I need to try school bread?? :offtopic: Sorry--The anticpiationis building and taking over!

Even though AK is one of my favorite places, I kinda have to agree with the MSN reviewer when he suggests there are better theme parks for $67.00. But I feel pretty much the same way as WDWguru... and mill4023 really summed things up pretty well. However, I consider ribs at the Flame Tree a "good day" all by itself! If you have been there, you know the guy from MSN has not!

S.Poppins- the new Nemo show, "Finding Nemo- The Musical", will be at Theater in the Wild, where Tarzan Rocks! used to be. It will be enclosed and A/C'd. Michael Curry who did the puppeteering for Lion King on Broadway and Tapestry of Nations at EPCOT, has created the puppet characters for the show. Lots of new songs based on the "Nemo" story and characters. Scheduled opening for late 2006.

Nemo show sounds great! I had already decided we would not see Tarzan rocks again - once was enough. But the Nemo show sounds great. How do you guys know so much! And by the way, how many posts before I am a Mouseketeer, is that after Earning My Ears? :cool1:
