Did Bonine cause extreme drowsiness for anyone? Based on good advice received here I am trying out the different sea sickness options available. When I tried the Bonine a few days ago it knocked me out for a day and a half. Did this happen to anyone else? :confused3

We used Bonine and it didn't have that effect on us. We were more wiped out by all the time changes on the west coast cruise!

my daughter (19 years old at the time) was totally knocked out.
So i made her stop taking it. She was fine as soon as the stuff wore off.

I take my sea sickness meds at night, so I sleep off the drowsiness.

We were just on the Wonder and both of us took Bonine. No drowsiness for either of us! We took it in the morning at breakfast.

Can anyone compare drowziness/effectiveness between bonine and dramamine? We will probably bring something for our 8 year old daughter.

When reading the packages at the store, dramamine states possible extreme drowziness where the bonine just said drowziness. They did have a new dramamine version that caused less drowziness as well.

The other difference I saw was that bonine stated use for only those 12 and over, where dramamine, I believe, was for 6 and over.

Thanks!
Dan.

Do not do well w/ bonine/dramamine. Patch worked well for me, even in moderate waves.
Thinking of trying acupressure bracelets for our kids. Like that non-medicated approach!
Happy cruising!

I'm a patch girl too. Cruising would not be possible without them.

I do need to take additional Dramamine or Bonine at times though. It kind of just slows me down, which is not something I mind while on vacation. I sleep better at night too, also something I like on vacation. I've noticed no difference in the 2 as far as the level of drowsiness though.

I was never tired with Bonine. I always take it at night and am fine the whole day long. The patch has some terrible side effects for some people and if you decide to use that then try it at home first. One friend of mine used the patch adn their vision was so blurry that she couldn't read a menu! Another it threw their balance off so much they had trouble walking.

I can't even take a half of a dramamine without getting knocked out. Bonine never had any effect on me in terms of making me tired...plus you can chew them...in case that matters if you don't have water handy.

FWIW, bonine knocked me out when I took it. Of course, the motion of the ocean crossing the Drake Passage probably helped ... much like being in a huge rocking chair. I went without it once we were halfway across and didn't use it for the return crossing. Phew!

I took one last Friday night for a test run. I took it at night so I could "sleep it off" for the first half anyway. I didn't really want to get up, but after I did I did not suffer any daytime drowsiness to slow me down. I am usually very, very susceptible to all antihistamines, etc.
I plan to take one tomorrow night at the Radisson!!!!! YES! that sounds sooooo good!!!

I have tried them all.

The patch not only blurred my vision but did not mix well with my regular medication. (I had to go to the ER with extreme balance problems.) :sad2:

Dramamine works for me but makes me pretty drowsy and sluggish.

Meclizine (Bonine) not only works best for me but causes only a slight sleepy feeling.

Everyone is different so it is best to talk with your doctor and try them BEFORE your trip.

Mostly Bonine causes me very occasional slight sleepiness, but the one time I had a drink (probably not recommended - i guess I should have checked) it totally knocked me out.

I have to take Bonine for a couple of days after the cruise because I continue to have movement sensations even when I am off the boat. Bonine helps.
