Bones found in water around Aruba

Even if this turns out just to be a pile of rocks, I hope that the renewed search efforts will lead to closure for her family soon. :sad2: we were in Aruba a year ago and while exploring the island it was hard not to think about her, that she was there somewhere waiting to finally go home :sad1: My heart aches for her family I can't begin to imagine the pain they have suffered, maybe now they will find peace.

I *think* I might see a skull.. maybe? Or is it a rock? I can't tell. I hope we get more information today.

I have a strange feeling that this isn't going to be Natalee but I hope I'm wrong!

What I don't get is how would they not see a skull (if that's what it is) while swimming down there and snapping pictures. Don't you think they would have seen it right off?

There are tons of reasons why you may not see it.
When we went snorkeling (in Aruba) we weren't really focusing on anything, there was so much to look at under there, its easy to miss stuff and then go back in pics and see it. It looks like there is a snake in the pic too, maybe they were paying attention to that. Also they aren't expecting to see a skull so if there is something that resembles it, your mind may not realize what it is. Its been years so it would be covered by sand, and not be clearly a skull. Although I see what could be a skull, I just can't believe that after all these years it would remain there. I don't think she will ever be found :sad1:

Here in the Netherlands we have a crime reporter, named Peter R. de Vries, and he is doing everything he can to get Joran framed. Too bad Joran is to smart, sneaky, twisted. Till now hje is getting away with everything...

The last thing Joran nearly got framed for was for was trading women.

Sorry for the bad phrase, but I am not a native english speaker and I couldnt find the right word for it.

Joran van der Sloot is bad, really bad. And seriously twisted. And a danger to society.

EDIT: the word i was looking for was 'white slavery'

These pictures were taken last fall. Why did it take so long for the couple to take them to the police?

I quickly glanced at the story on Fox News web site, and I think it reported that they did turn in the pictures sooner than now. However, whoever the pictures were sent to (in Miami, or maybe Aruba????) do not remember seeing them. In other words, I was under the impression that the pictures had just been lost at the officials office. Is that the case?

Maybe they were focusing on that snake. Maybe they were trying to take a photo of that snake, looking at the snake only, and just noticed the skull while looking at the pictures trying to figure out what they were taking a picture of there since the snake is not fully centered. You know how hard it is to get a centered photo of a moving animal.

I don't see any of that stuff.

I think what everyone is calling a skull is a rock. Skulls don't end abruptly in a straight line, they curve under in the back and it has to be the back seeing as there are no orbits.

As for the jaw bone which I'm assuming is what is thought to be laying at the base of the skull..It's too thick and is backwards.

I'm afraid everyone is getting worked up over some rocks on the ocean floor.

I*hope* that these pictures were looked at by people who are in position to definitely say these are human bones before the press got ahold of them. I'm worried, like you, that people are getting hope from rocks. Lets just hope that forensics, or doctors or someone was able to say "yes, these are the bones of a human". I can see what I think everyone is looking at...but even if they are human bones, they may not be Natalee's. I hope Beth has been warned of all this.

I thought that maybe they had the pic cropped and enlarged in order to show the possible remains. It doen's look like that is the pic that was intended. Like maybe they were taking a pic of the snake and were near the surface, when they looked at the pic later, they enlarged them (to see the snake better) and realized what might be there, so they cropped it and enlarged it further to show to the press. That's what it looks like,to me, from the pic of the man holding the underwater pic. IDK< I kinda have a hard time believing that they would be Natalee's remains, but who knows...it would be great if they were so that the family can have peace now.

This seems like a hoax to me. I feel like the family is getting there hopes up for nothing

When I look at that picture, I can see what appears to be a skull separated from a jawbone. I think I can also see teeth. But, then again, it could be rocks. Who knows, but I'd like to think it gives the Holloways a ray of hope that Natalie's body will be discovered.

Yes, one of the stories I read said they turned the picture over soon after the trip. It was forwarded to the FBI however the FBI claims to have never received it. :confused3

I see what people are calling the skull. I also see what people are calling the pelvis. But the shady area in between doesn't match up for me??? There are 2 things that look like they would be arms, but they're much too big.

I hope for Beth's sake, it is her and she can finally get some closure.

The article I read explained the timeline by saying that although they took the pictures in the fall, they were not developed until December. Somebody who still develops film

Anyway, then allegedly, they took the picture to several experts to see if they thought it was worth mentioning.

Then they wanted to ask and receive permission from Natalie's father, which he granted, before they went public with the picture.

Is it possible with tidal action & storms for bones to still be together & in the shape of a person?

I so hope its her for the family's sake and they can finally nail this guy.

I read that the waters around Aruba are not as acidic as those in the Pacific and Atlantic so the body would not dissolve as quickly. Also, there is some speculation the body may have been weighted down by rocks. Well, at this point it's all speculation.

I hope she can be found and properly laid to rest.

They were likely using a disposable underwater camera for their "wet" pictures. Which could definitely explain why it took awhile to get developed - I know I still have at least one disposable underwater camera that I used while taking snorkeling pictures on vacation, that never got taken in to be developed. When you already have all of your other vacation photos instantly (in digital) it's hard to remember to bring in this one lonely film camera that *might* have some decent photos on it.

Question: Reading that link, it says that Van der Sloot has admitted to disposing of the body after Natalee "accidentally" died. But still Aruban officials claim they don't have anything to charge him with?

Isn't disposing of a body a crime, even if you can't get him for murder?

I don't understand at all!

I'm not sure how Dutch law treats the improper disposal of a body. There could also be a statute of limitations that has expired for the disposal.

Everything out there is totally speculation at this point so who really knows. If it is her body what are the chances that any evidence has survived the time at the bottom of the sea.
