So I want to do the Bon Voyage breakfast on our MK day, but I wanna try to make it for park opening.
1) How much time should I save for the breakfast?
2) how long does it take to get from there to MK? From pop century to Boardwalk?
3) is this even a viable option? (I should mention I'm planning for Jan 4th.)

Thanks in advance! This is gonna be our first time there, and no other day works.

Sorry, but you likely won't make it to MK in time for park opening, especially if its an AM EMH day (which we don't know, yet.)

2a) how long does it take to get from pop century to Boardwalk?

1) 60-90 minutes.
2a) If you are DRIVING (or taking a hired car) figure 15-30 min.
2b) If you take a Disney bus, figure 20 minutes, plus "waiting for the bus" time.
If you are DRIVING (or taking a hired car) figure 30-45 min. (because you will need to get from the MK parking lot/TTC to the MK gates.)
3) Not so much, I'm afraid.

Could you possibly make it work on your departure day? We love ending our trip with a character breakfast before heading out.

This is exactly what we're doing in September. Check out day, no park. One last hurrah.

We did the breakfast last week and we had the earliest sitting at 730 and got seated in the third or fourth table from where they start circling around and we met the first at 8am, the last at 820 (they all meet individually, not as couples), so that would really be the earliest you could get out if you wanted to meet all of the characters (and if not, why would you be doing the breakfast?). It is a very good breakfast, the food was yummy, character interactions were great, and service was top notch, but I can't see how you'd even make a 9am rope drop.

I don't think you will make it to rope drop, but I can let you know Thurs. We have an ADR for 7:40 and plan on going to MK as soon as we are done. We will have a car so we need to add in the time to get from TTC to MK. I'm hoping we get to MK around 9:30.

Arrive at the restaurant by 7:15 and check in.
They can likely seat you early.

Nope. Checkout day is also cruise day. I asked the cruise line people about this and they suggested not doing it on embarkation day.

And thanks everyone! So it sounds like it's either the breakfast or rope drop. Is being at rope drop a major thing for first timers? I've seen the show on YouTube, so honestly I'm good. I know how to use fastpass+, so I'm good there. I really want to do the breakfast. Would you suggest rope drop or the breakfast?

If you are more of character experience type of family, go with the breakfast, if you are a rides rides rides family, go with rope drop.

I agree with the PP - what is more important to you, characters or rides? Running from a breakfast to the park to the boat would probably stress me out - that's a lot of running around. I think I'd skip the breakfast.

Are you going to EPCOT at all? If you switch your breakfast and do it the day of your EPCOT day you can make rope drop there instead? Then go to MK a different day?

I've done this breakfast 3 times, and you will not make it to Magic for rope drop. To do RD, you really need to be at the TTC at 8
The quickest I've completed the meal is about an hour, the longest about 90 minutes (intentionally)
All 3 times I've been seated around 7:30.

This past Saturday it took just over an hour to get from Trattoria to Cinderella Castle (got in to see the 10:15 Trolley show, though I have gotten in earlier after shorter meals/less crowded weekends)

I obviously love the meal, so I would recommend it. It's great food and great character interactions.
If you're comfortable with the FP+ system, then I would skip RD

I don't have experience going the week after New Year's, but I think you may find that being at the park right at RD isn't as important as being at RD say, in the middle of June. (Unless you want to be there for the show?) Regardless, with only two people, I think you will find you will be able to get many same day FPs throughout the day. I say enjoy your breakfast and work those FPs!

We're pretty much there 2 days: arrival day (getting to the airport from California around 10:30am), when we're looking to roam Disney Springs and get our pictures taken in front of each park. Next day is our MK day. This is our only day in the parks, and going to try to be there from early morning to when they kick us out at night. Next day is checkout and going to the cruise.
I'm gonna have fastpasses set up on our magic bands, so I'm not worried about that. I do like characters (especially Rapunzel & Ariel), but I also wanna see the differences between MK & DL. I'm just worried about missing a lot of time in the park, especially since it's our first time there.

If you miss rope drop, you will miss the shortest line times of the day. If you plan to stay until park closing, you'll still have plenty of time, as in, hours, in MK, it just won't be the most efficient time for riding things. For a first timer, I think I'd be doing rope drop. But you'll have fun with whatever you choose.

Keep in mind that if you have a car, parking at BWI is limited (construction), so it can be a hike to your car - just adds a few more minutes each way, but still. No way would I rely on Disney's buses to and from this breakfast. The extra cost of 2 Uber rides is so minimal in the overall cost of your trip I'd guess.
(In my opinion, especially first timer, I wouldn't do a character breakfast anywhere but inside or next to the park I was going to that day. the benefit of rope drop is huge for getting on rides and just being able to enjoy the sights/atmosphere before its crowded. Can you do Epcot or HS that day?)
