Bomb threat in school....

Well, the building is still standing and the kids are safe. She texted me during lunch (10:15) and said most of her friends went - only two didn't. Then she texted me that some kid popped a bag in the cafeteria and everyone screamed! She said the time of the bomb was to be 10:50 am - at 10:45 she texted me - bye bye mommy - what a drama queen.

My school has a threat against it for tomorrow. A note was found scratched into a bathroom wall saying "bomb 5/19/10". It's also the day of the Senior Scholarship assembly so every senior plus a lot of parents and a ton of community members will be in the same room... I know a ton of kids aren't going to school. They already announced a strong police presence at our school as well as being on lock-down all day. I'm going, even though I'm nervous about going. No leads have been made on who did it and this rarely happens at my school...

I was a freshman in HS for Columbine and a senior during 9/11...bomb threats seemed to happen every day in Sept and then again in May and June. We had to evacuate each time and sit in a park or walk over to the middle school and sit in the gym and lunch room, it was crazy, but I think after a while the people who were calling it in realized they weren't going to "get out of school" they were just going to sit at another one :lmao:

My dd told me that someone set off a stink bomb at 10:50! She said it stunk for 2 periods. Next Tues. was mentioned also so I guess next Monday we can have this convo again:lmao:

I remember being in highschool and the bomb threats and I leaernd that someone is doing this to get out of class or something. I dobut your kid will be in danger however it is a big waste for her to go cuse all u do is sit on a filed while the adminstarters decide what to do.

My Junior year of High School we had 3 bomb threats called in. They were never called in days a head of time but they always happened during the same class period (someone really didn't like 3rd period).

The only thing that pissed my parents off is the news broadcasting the location the school moved the students to. Our school never changed locations and if someone really wanted to harm the students all they would have to do is call in a bomb threat and then blow up the "safe areas."

I remember in 9th grade, our HS had a bomb threat nearly every other day for 2 weeks. It was a bunch of knuckleheads calling from a payphone down the street. A couple high schoolers and even a kid in Middle school were arrested.

I wouldn't worry much at all. It's usually some kids seeking attention.

My dd said that too! She said it was horrible!

I'd let her stay home if she felt uncomfortable. If she hasn't missed any days it hopefully won't be a problem. I bet quite a few other students will be absent.

But, I really wouldn't worry about the threat, schools do an incredible job of handling these types of situations.

DS's school had a bomb threat earlier this year. A few kids stayed home , my DS said he wasn't going to stay home, didn't make any sense. Of course, nothing happened. Most of the teachers kept their classrooms locked during the day, and they couldn't have PE outside.

The scarier day was when they had a bomb scare in the elementary school. DS was in 2nd or 3rd. They walked all the kids to another nearby school (we actually have three elementaries in a half-mile radius). I was going out to meet a friend for lunch -- her husband was in the hospital at the time -- and before I left, three people called to tell me about it. They were letting you pick up your kids and any friends' kids from the other school -- I called my friend and asked her if she wanted me to get her kids -- she said no, leave them there, which was my reaction for my kids (don't flame me for being an uncaring parent -- there was a lot more going on than I'm going to put here) -- they walked back to their school half an hour later. It turned out to be a note that someone's big brother had written on a piece of paper that the kid threw out in a bathroom wastebasket. They did get the kid who wrote it, though.
