On our Dec trip I would very much like to fit in a chance for our friends to see AKL. Why?

1. Because we've never seen it :rotfl2: and we're planning a week-long vacation there next summer.
2. Because they swear it's their one trip to disney and I thought seeing AKL might seduce them otherwise (maybe they'd even want to come with us next year to help us celebrate???). I think it's their kind of place and the one who is such a snob about disney might loosen up if gets a gander at it.
3. It's the holidays and it would be cool :cool1: to see one more resort decorated.

OK, but here's the problem, there is no time to do this in the evening; it would have to me for a very late breakfast and when I look at the breakfast buffet at Bomas I am really NOT impressed (and apparently they don't do lunch). While we like the usual fare, we really like exotic stuff, and I'm not seeing any. I was hoping for some few local options beyond the coffee. Can anyone share their experience with me on this? Is is pretty much nice standard breakfast buffet fare, or are there nice surprises that would make this experience stand out for them.

I know it's too bad we can't do Jikos, but that's for next year.

Thank you.

You don't need to do Boma to walk around the resort. I agree with your assessment on the breakfast buffet. Typical stuff. I'd pass up the breakfast, eat somewhere else, and tour Animal Kingdom when you can.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge can be a place that really turns people. My daughter-in-law, even though she was a Disney fan was blown away by the Lodge. We weren't staying there, just visiting. She did not want to leave and had tears in her eyes when we finally got her out of there. Be sure to check out their gift shop. Extremely nice.

I have to disagree. I think that the breakfast buffet at Boma is one of the best. During our May visit, there were quite a few unusual dishes on offer. Less unusual but absolutely DELICIOUS are the almond pastries. Yummmmm. Be forewarned, though. Folks stand in LINE for the excellent made-to-order omelets here. (Note: AKL is our absolute favorite WDW resort, so we stay and dine here quite often. We've NEVER been dissatisfied.)

My DH, DD and I feel that the breakfast and dinner buffets at Boma are the best at WDW and the AKL is a great resort to visit.

Thanks all, those responses give me something to think about. I see the reasoning behind not eating there, but I know our group. We'll have been to PI the night before and the only way I'll get everybody up and out is if I can promise them something to look forward to (a great, interesting, or at least different meal).

just back from Akl & the two best meals I had was at boma for diner and breakfast. The diner was great with a great selection. You should allways find something you really like even at breakfast, great selection of fresh fruit pastries etc.
As a family we found it difficult to find food that we all wanted to eat, as we were there 14 days the food in the parks was getting a little boring but I could have eaten at the Boma morning and evening and not got bored

Boma was the same as most other WDW breafast buffets...very disappointed as i was expecting unusual and got "good but same old same old"...the food is good just like all other wdw brk. buffets i've been to. the only "different" stuff was the juice( not different if you drink tropical blend juices other than orange so no biggie to me, again good but same old) a corned beef/egg pudding type thing which i heartily disliked and some different hot cereals that tasted like cream of wheat. they also had a pork loin which everyone might not have for brekfast but didn't taste "unusual". we are normally pretty adventureous diners so maybe that is why it seemed ordinary to me and so exotic to others

the atmosphere itself is more unusual than the food, nicely themed with twig like "fenced" areas, i liked the atmosphere although it was not cozy or private in the least

so if you go expecting a nice somewhat expensive breakfast buffet you will probably like it but if you go expecting something unusual, not so much

Personally i will probably stick to Trails' End BB from now on. it's good & cheap even if it has maybe a few less pastries to choose from...btw i just asked about this and as i thought, the pastries are all made in one place so you'll no doubt see somewhat similar things on most buffets as far as pastry goes

could you please post what they were? is it seasonal maybe ????? in january it was the same as everywhere else except for the few things i noted

IMHO Boma is the *BEST* dinner at Disneyworld. GREAT selection of fresh, tasty and VERY interesting food! (Yes, I know the thread is about breakfast, just thought I would post about something I feel PASSIONATELY about on my first post!)

Here is the key to figuring out whether or not you will like Boma:

Are you...

2) like me, the one guy in your group who knows about EVERY good ethnic restaurant in town (Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Korean barbeque, Polish, Malaysian, Persian, etc), hates bland chain restaurants, and loves to try new and different things; OR are you...

1) like my father in law, who (bless his heart), pretty much does NOT eat anything that his mom did not cook for him when he was growing up (meatloaf, pot roast, spaghetti) and who RECOILS in horror when I try to drag him to one of my ethnic restaurants?

If you are like me, you will totally dig Boma. If not, well, they've always got the "kids area" on the buffet!!!

We are staying at the AKL early October. Can you just turn up for breakfast or do you require a reservation?

I really disliked the Boma dinner - looked impressive but tasted bland.I wont be doing that again. However I have heard great things about the breakfasts and will give that a go next year. :flower:

Clare D,

I would get a reservation just to be on the safe side. I hope you enjoy your meal.

FWIW, I'm a very picky eater, and after my last trip, Boma is a MUST for me for at least one dinner per trip. It's great, as Tony the Tiger might say.

Well, I'm still torn. It sounds like a very nice breakfast buffet, with no real "African" flavor to it, aside from a couple of drinks, a special order coffee, and one dish which may or may be good. That makes it hard to decide. After a night on at PI, we could grab breakfast anywhere. I was hoping it was a bit special so that we would all get our behinds out of bed at BCV and over for a peak at AKL. I think we'lll just have to play it by ear. I'll make a AR, but I'll know it's up for grabs, given how we feel.

Thanks all.
