I went and read a menu for Boma and could not find one thing that interested me for dinner. I am not usually a picky eater either. Can someone tell me what is so wonderful to eat there? Are there other things on the buffet that would appeal to a very picky eater like my hubby? :(

There is chicken, beef, salads w/different dressings, breads, potatoes, desserts - basic foods like that don't appeal to you? -Steph

I wasn't fond of it, though most people are.

The exception was the soups. The soups were really great - but it was an expensive soup buffet.

We just ate there last Saturday. Our friends had just returned from the Magic and their first dinner HAD to be at Boma. It was the only time we could get together, so Boma it was.

First I have to explain that I am allergic to any form of aromatic pepper, the kind used as spices that is.....I'm also allergic to curry. I talked to CM Donna about what dishes I could safely eat and she grabbed their Dietary Restrictions chart. It didn't have any information about spices but did include nuts, gluten, dairy, eggs, etc. She walked me down the serving line and pointed out the few things it was safe for me to eat......prime rib, mac & cheese, bread and desserts. That's about it. She did offer to make a side of couscous with veges and when it came to the table there was enough to feed all 6 adults :earseek:

Overall the couscous with veges was the BEST thing I had to eat that night. The prime rib tasted like the gas they were cooking with, the mac and cheese was, well mac and cheese. I never even bothered to try any desserts. I can get chocolate chip cookies anywhere and the fruit tarts had mango in them, which I'm deathly allergic to and the Zebra Domes, which DBF loved, has Kaluha (coffee liquor) in them....I hate coffee :(. Needless to say, I will not be dining at Boma ever again.

Perhaps it was the way they were described as being prepared. Sounded funky and not at all appealling. My hubby is a real basic kind of eater. No sauces for him. And you should see they way the man can pick apart a chicken breast!

I just have to say that I think Boma is fantastic. I have eaten there 3 times. My BIL has requested for our next trip and it will be his third time..and everyone else agreed whole heartedly.

The desserts are fantastic - and there are plenty of choices. Cheesecakes to mousse to some sort of bread pudding with a divine vanilla sauce that you can dump over everything.

My friends say I am a picky eater - and I always end up leaving full. The roasted chicken was great - I don't to prime rib type. The soups and stews were yum.

There are a lot of 'cold' salads and root/potato type pieces. The hummos and lavosh are great too.

My SIL has major allergies and always manages to stuff herself as well.

It is a nice way to try some new things - and the atmosphere is dark and warm and relaxing. Plus, AKL has one of the best gift shops.

Those are my few cents. Good luck deciding.

Someone mentioned curry in one of the last posts, and my heart just sank. My dad eats absolutely everything under the sun..... except curry, which he really is allergic to.

Sounds like Kitster had quite a time avoiding curry at the buffet. I'm not sure this would be the best place for dad.

AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

Visited Boma's two weeks ago and were disapointed. We have visited this resturant twice before and were satisfied with the fare.

Curry wasn't the biggest problem, the pepper was. There were cihili's in the salad dressing, curry in the cold couscous salad, black pepper on the prime rib (but it could be trimmed off), and so on and so on. If your dad is only allergic to curry, he should be fine although he might find some of the food too spicy for his taste. I just got a double whammy when I added in the pepper allergy.

Kitster,

I neglected to mention that my mom has severe issues with black pepper. Regular black pepper..........

So between the two of them, it looks like DH and I will have to squeeze in Boma before they get to Orlando!!

I love Boma. It's one of my favorite WDW restaurants. The salads are great, as are the soups. The breads and dips are very good as well. The desserts are amazing. I thought all the foods just had such good flavors.

My family loves Boma and we go EVERY time we're there. And we are there a lot as we just moved to FL and have annual passes. Some trips we even eat there twice and I could probably eat there every night of my stay and be happy. That being said I do not think you would like this place. If nothing on the menu sounds appealing and you and your DH are plain eaters, then don't waste you money. Go some place that you know you will like. Or consider it an adventure night and go knowing it has many strange foods and unusual tastes.

I love Boma and the Chicken Salad with Cilantro and Chili's in it is AWESOME! The fu fu is really good too (think smashed sweet potatoes). The soups are awesome. The pineapple cheesecake and vanilla bean banana bread pudding is out of this world. The flat breads and dips I could make a meal out of. The Lentil Salad was tasty. The ribs were ok, the chicken was good.

If you do not like smoke flavoring, you probably won't care for the prime rib.

The ONLY 2 things I didn't like was the watermelon rind salad or zebra domes.

If you are a plain eater, don't eat here. It's not for people who want plain.
