I am trying to get some ideas about places to eat while we are in the WORLD. I was wondering if you have a picky appetite will you enjoy Boma and get your money's worth? One member of our party is soooooooo picky when it comes to food and I don't want him to feel as though he wasted 25.00. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!:)

They have a meat station where the rotate a couple of different kinds off meat. It was prime rib once and steaks once along with fish and I think there was some lamb. There are some salads and cassaroles that appear exotic but are not AND there is always the kids buffet where he could have spaghetti. Might not be worth it for him but I am sure he could find enough to eat when you include the dessert section.

;) They have quite a large selection there, but some of the food is quite hot. Your picky eater should be ok as long as he or she asks about the spiceness of the food they are selecting

I am a picky eater when it comes to spicy foods and my fiancé is very picy about trying new foods, especially foods from different cultures, ethnicites, etc. With that in mind, we ate at Boma last December because I desparately wanted to stay at AKL, but since that wasn't quite in our budget at the time we did dinner there and stayed at ASMo. Both of us loved Boma and we're going back on the 27th for dinner our first night in AKL!! So I would say to give it a try, there's definitely enough of a variety that your friend will be full and happy when he leaves.

IMHO, it would depend on just how picky the person is. My DH is a really picky eater too ... and while I really like Boma, he's just 'so so' about it. I will say that he likes breakfast better than dinner there.

Well, what restaurants WOULD please your picky eater? I have a friend who isn't happy anywhere, but it took me a long time to stop taking responsibility for that. Don't forget that you need to please yourself as well as everyone else! :)

(BTW, I like Boma a lot, and took several somewhat picky eaters to Jiko, which they all liked. Boma is sometimes spicy but not hot, IMHO. Last time there one of my teens ate from the "kid's" pod, and was just as happy as the rest of us who were a little more adventurous.)

Well .... let's see - he likes Jiko actually, which surprised the heck out of me! LOL But, you have to know that *he* is happy as long as there is a steak on the menu! LOL
For that reason, he also will go to the Ca Grill - he doesn't like it, but he goes, and does get a steak he likes. I think it's the other stuff there he doesn't care for! He likes RFC - big menu with lots of 'basics'; he likes a lot of places now that I think of it .. just the one place he hated that was *my* absolute favorite was V&A's Chefs table! LOL

To clarify: Boma always has prime rib and chicken on the buffet. The second selection of roasted or grilled meat varies as do the types of soups and some of the vegetables. Potatoes with Afritude are always on the buffet as is the mashed pumkin and couscous. The salad and chilled vegetable selections rarely vary, rather they change offerings seasonally.

The menu changes are an established pattern. Call the restaurant directly to determine what is on offer. Alternatively, if you choose to dine there, ask the CM who will be able to give you the schedule of main dishes that change during the week.

I did not overly enjoy it and had to eat off the kid's table but I don't think we wasted money - it was an experience. I don't think I would eat there again.

My FIL is the pickiest eater I've ever met, and he LOVED Boma. Of course, he made the servers explain every dish he wanted to try, and once he discovered that there were very few strange ingredients he was willing to try everything, and he liked just about everything he tried.

Don't emphasize that it's strange food or exotic food, it's really very good, very normal food with a few interesting spices or combinations. Of course, some of the food is spicy, but the same can be said of many different cuisines.

I can't wait until I go back in May to eat there again!

For a picky, or plain food eater, there are choices at Boma. There are grilled vegetables that were very good, and simple. There was plain grits which were very good (ground corn based cereal looking thing - I can't explain it better than that). Prime rib was very good. The mac and cheese on the kids buffet was great. They had a good field greens salad, with some exotic dressings but also a basic balsalmic vinegrette, rolls and butter... and lots of familiar style desserts, including a fruit tart with vanilla sauce. There were many other familiar items on the kids bar too. We really like it, and will go back.

DW and I went to Boma in 2/2002. All of my friends/family tell me that I am a picky eater. I feel I ate $25 worth of meat and desserts alone. It was fun to try (and enjoy!) some of the unusual (Fufu?) selections.

I am a picky eater and don't like a lot of different foods. Finding a place where I eat what I actually paid for is sometimes difficult. However, there was so much at Boma I felt I ate my $$ worth. There is so much to choose from. Heck, I probably ate my $$ worth in desserts alone. Definitely go here, it's a great restaurant that my DH & I really enjoyed!
