I wanted to know if Boma is worth trying. What is the food like? How about desserts? Any info would be great! What is Zebra Dome?(afraid to ask) Dh and I are not very adventurous but I"m thinking we could eat there and check out AKL for next stay. My other plan is to just eat at Kona that night instead. We are staying at Poly and already planning on eating at Ohana. Also we have DS 2 and DD 5 with us. Thanks

We are not that adventurous either, but believe me, Boma is nothing to be afraid of! Alot of what they offer is actually fairly normal, with an African spin on it. If that is still too much, they have alot of the standard fare - mac and cheese, pasta, roast beef, etc. We enjoy it and actually I think one of our favorite parts of going is walking around and looking at the resort and animals.

I say it's definitely worth checking out!

A lot of people LOVE this place, but we were very disappointed. I suspect it was a matter of expectations - our expectations were simply too high and therefore, we had no choice but to be disappointed.

We did not find the food overly adventuerous or spicy. If that is what is keeping you from going - give it a shot (however, I regularly make couscous, always have hummus in my fridge)

Zebra domes are a mocha mousse encased in a hard white (IIRC) chocolate ganache on top of a small thin peice of sponge cake. We found ours stale, however, I'm a dessert snob - its difficult to wow me with a dessert - and probably impossible off a buffet.

Since you have two small children, consider if buffet dining is a good choice for your family. We always found buffets to be really difficult with small kids and it was much easier to sit and have someone bring food. Other people like having immediate access to the food.

Thank you for your reply. Zebra domes sound good as long as there not stale. I thought it was real zebra, haha

We gave it a try for the first time(Feb 06) and we really liked it! DH isn't very adventurous and our children are very picky. There was plenty of food to choose from. I would definately get an ADR! We are planning on doing Boma when we go back in Sept.

Hi,

How about the prices? I think I read that Boma has a breakfast buffet...
Can anyone give me an idea of the prices? Does it include drinks?

Thanks!

At allearsnet.com they have a full list of menus and prices for all the restaurants at WDW. :)

Breakfast is currently $16.99 adult/$9.99 child 3-9. Dinner is $25.99 adult/$11.99 child 3-9. Non-alcoholic drinks are inluded in the price.

Boma seems to be a "love it or hate it" type of place. Some people think it's too exotic (but not many) while others think it's not exotic enough. Really, the only way to determine if you'll like it is to try it. Personally, we love it. :)

We ate at Boma last month. It was good, but nothing to write home about. It reminded me of a cafeteria. They had lots of normal things on the buffet, and some things I had never heard of (watermelon rind salad!). It is worth a try......the Lodge is beautiful.

We have eaten at Boma twice and, as a food snob, I would rate Boma as exceptional and a "don't miss" restaurant at WDW. IMHO, it is one of the two best buffets at WDW when quality, selection, and menu are considered (Cape May Cafe is the other buffet I would rate highly. Trails End rates high for quality, but low for atmosphere and menu in my book, but also wins the price war with almost any restaurant at Disney). That said, Boma's quality and menu are somewhat uneven (but, IMHO, predictably uneven). I would rate their soups as among the best that I have ever tasted in any restaurant in which I have eaten. Many are unfamiliar and have unique spicing. I usually try a little of each before I determine the two or three that I will eat larger portions of. In general, their meat dishes are average. Their Durban Chicken is probably my favorite, and the "prime rib" wasn't quite good the last time we ate there. Some of the vegetarian dishes are also quite good, but some are kind of bland and simplistic. The fresh fruit is usually very good, and the dessert buffet is excellent, although you have to try things before you find what is particularly good on a given night. The zebra domes are excellent, although they have changed the way they prepare them since they first opened and the new, smaller ones are not quite as good (though they are generally still "to die for"). Even a non-adventurous eater can enjoy Boma, but you do have to be willing to try things to find out what you like.

I think Boma's is the best buffet in Disney.

Boma was one of our favorites. It was a welcomed change from the standard buffet food we kept bumping into over and over at Chef Mickey's, Hollywood and Vine, etc. The food definitely wasn't "exotic", but was a refreshing change. The lentil/goat cheese salad was fantastic as was the red pepper hummus! They also had pretty run of the mill buffet foods like prime rib, pasta, etc. I really liked the chili lime salad dressing on the salad!

We love Boma for breakfast and dinner. Our family likes lots of different things from our meals. DH likes to eat healthy which he can do at Boma. DS is very picky and finds what he needs...pasta and lots of fresh fruit. DD eats anything which is great for her and I love, love, love and live for desserts! I need to learn though that I don't have to eat what I paid for :rotfl: I perfer the breakfast, but I like breakfast food more. Their omelet station is great and DH and DS really like this in the mornings. I know that everyone talks about the zebra domes, but I like the little fruit pizza things even though I know that's not the name of them. The pineapple cheesecakes are yummy too. Desserts in the mornings are very yummy as well.

Remember that some people just don't like buffets.

I should add too that I love the flat bread...I think that's what it's called. There are items that I can't find anywhere else.

Boma is a great restaurant, and there's a kid's bar so you won't have to worry about the kids. I definitely think it's worth checking out. However, Kona cafe is also a great place and also has really good desserts! You can't go wrong with either one!

When we want to try Boma, we usually go there for dinner the day we go to AK.

We also enjoy eating at Boma. We think the food selection is great and there is alot to choose from. The chefs are always willing to explain the dishes and tell you what is in them. We also love the zebra domes for dessert.

We've tried both, and we weren't impressed with Boma. It just didn't live up to the hype as far as we were concerned. However, we loved Kona. It was one of the best meals we had. Just my 2 cents.
