Boma - Spicy?

We are considering heading over to Animal Kingdom Lodge on our "rest day" and possibly having dinner at Boma. My dad is not a picky eater whatsoever, but he does not like/can not eat spicy food. Would Boma be a complete waste for him?

Boma has a large selection of foods many of which are not spicy at all. Some are just normal American dishes. I'm assuming by spicy you mean hot. Have you taken a look at a menu?

Agree with PPs - many dishes are highly flavored, but not with hot spices like chilies. Cinnamon (used savory as well as sweet), cardamom, mild curries, turmeric and the like are common on the buffet. And there are a limited variety of very mildly spiced dishes. Give it a try! It's our fav at WDW.

But there is a lot of stuff for kids who don't want anything exotic. Anyone can eat the kid stuff.

I don't like spicy food at all (I get my Thai food with no spice, don't eat salsa, etc), and Boma is my absolute favorite! The few people I know that didn't like Boma didn't like it because the food was too sweet (cinnamon, etc).

Boma is awesome, it may be the best restaurant on property taste wise. I agree with the others, well seasoned but not spicy.

It is spicy as in there are a lot of spices used, but not spicy as in it has a 'hot' flavour profile. So, yeah, well seasoned. :)

Expect cinnamon, cardamon, cumin, nutmeg, tumeric, clove and the like- spices we usually associate with sweet foods, but if you actually think about it, cinnamon in particular is not sweet at all (we Westerners just usually use it in desserts). There are some dishes with chile, but not many, and they're usually well marked.

I don't like anything spicy either and Boma is one of my very favorites! So many different options!

Not "hot" spicy, but some of the food offered can have a different flavor profile than Americans are used to.
This is a really good point. I've eaten at Boma (yes, at Sanaa and Jiko too) several times. I enjoy trying different foods. However, I've reached the conclusion that most of the "african" flavors that I encounter at the WL restaurants just aren't to my liking.

TDC Nala's point is that they are different. Some of us will like it, some won't. The only way you'll know is to go and try. I'd encourage you do to this at Boma because if you find you don't like some items, there will be others that you will like. Its a perfect opportunity to sample a range of new foods.

As others have said, the food isn't spicey as in hot, just different seasonings that give it a unique flavor; however, there are plenty of other selections without all of the spices/seasonings. With that said, we are not adventurous eaters and Boma is one of our favorites and is a must do for us every trip.

Do not like spicy, like Boma. Lots of unique flavors but it really is a big buffet so I find that everyone was able to find things to enjoy. The only thing we noted was they seem to use a lot of onions (which I loved). DH needs to avoid them unless they are cooked down to nothing so he had to pass on several salads and sides.
