Boma

I've tried Boma and wouldn't bother going back. We enjoy O'hana, but I am still hesitant about the new menu.

We love Boma.... There's food for everyone no matter their tastes. We went to WDW as a party of 9 people and when we went to Boma, the vegetarians got plenty as did the meat eaters and the low-carbers etc. etc.

I picked Boma because, while the food is weird, I find it much better quality than 'Ohana. I have eaten at 'Ohana two or three times. It's not bad, but I found most of the meats to be dry--not inedible--but dry.

I loved the atmosphere at Boma, loved going to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, just enjoyed it much more than 'Ohana.

Your 8 year old, however, will prefer 'Ohana.

As much as we love Ohana, I'd have to vote Boma. We loved the buffet, being able to pick our own stuff and try alot of different foods(though alot of it really isn't that strange). I loved the desserts(but the bread pudding at Ohana is my favorite dessert in WDW) and the meat choices. We'll go back to both of these places but if i had to choose only one it would be, reluctantly, Boma.

I enjoyed both but I prefer the setting at Ohana's. Boma seemed louder with a lot of activity as people go back and forth to the food stations - it reminded me of a cafeteria.

I've never been to either, but Boma is the restaurant that I chose to eat at on our upcoming trip. I'm fairly adventurous when it comes to eating. If it contains food that I like, I'm willing to try new things.

As much as I enjoy the variety at Boma, I chose Ohana - Ohana means Family & that's what you have going for your Birthday. Your 8 yo will probably like Ohana much better. You can have a Lapu Lapu & celebrate. If you time it right, you can see Wishes from the restaurant or the Poly Beach.

But, either way, they are both equally good places to eat.

I love 'Ohana.....the new menu was very good imho :thumbsup2 Plus there are activities that your 8 year old would enjoy such as coconut races. Plus if you can get a seat by the window you may have a view of the castle

THese are two of my favs. I LOVE Boma but for a birthday I would say O'hana b/c it's more of a party atmosphere. We were there a few weeks ago and we LOVED the new menu. The dips were awesome, and the wings and shrimp too. I could have eaten my fill of just those. we went through 3 orders of the shrimp! I only ate the steak, but it was rare and juicy. I was surprised how much I loved it.

Boma is awesome too. I love the food there and I love AKL to wander around the main savanah.

You'll have a great time whichever.

i voted "neither" because ds has food allergies (peanuts and tree nuts)... when we ate at boma last summer, we were assured certain foods were safe and unfortunately he had an episode and one of the muffins that we were told were okay were NOT!

we also avoid 'ohana because of the peanut sauce... even if they don't serve it to us, there's still "too much" of it around that the place, making us feel that it is just not safe for him...

although we did have breakfast at 'ohana and enjoyed it very much!

now, for a family w/an 8yo, i'd say you cannot go wrong with either... esp if you take the time to visit the resorts... esp AKL :)

Boma. While I like 'Ohana as well, the food is consistently better at Boma.

I chose Ohana. We really enjoyed our evening there. Boma (and this is just my opinion) was not good at all. I have never eaten anywhere at Disney that I didn't enjoy, but I did not like the food at Boma at all. Would never go back.

Boma. You can try different things and have more of what you like, discard that which you don't like. Also the service at Ohana is inconsistent, at Boma, you're pretty much on your own (except for drinks).:earsboy:

We have tried Ohana 3 times over a 10 year period. We will not be back. The food is just not very good. We have found the meat to be dry and tasteless. We kept going back because so many people like it and we thought we had just hit an off night.

Boma, on the other hand has never disapointed us. During our last tip in Jan., it was our best meal.

what activities do they have at ohana?

They have coconut races, hula hooping contests & a musician/MC kind of thing. Not sure what else, that's all I remember from when DS was little. Kids love it.
