Boma or Ohana for First Timers?

I think that that is a much better move. You won't be disappointed.

Ohana is tough to get a ressie for. Kona is a nice option, the atmosphere isn't as nice as Ohana, but the food is good.

My DH and I are both in our 20s as well, and we are going just the two of us in January. I'd suggest Ohana without a doubt!

I've been there before and I loved it! While I am not as crazy about the meat, I LOVED the shrimp and all the sides and bread they brought out. The bread pudding is to die for!

I know my DH will love Ohana. I just don't know whether he will hurt himself on all the meat or the sides as well! We aren't big buffet people, so this my way of getting an all you can eat type meal without the buffet style.

I'd go with Boma, myself...think the food is better and so is the atmosphere.

From one 20-something couple to another, don't do 'Ohana. Besides the food being pretty awful (overcooked and tasteless meats, sides that you can get in the freezer section of your supermarket) the atmosphere is not geared for us. There is a very loud and obnoxious emcee that doesn't stop talking long enough for you to have a conversation that runs games for kids and the service for us has been awful. Even having a window seat facing MK durring Wishes could not save our last meal there. Ever since Le Cellier moved to a signature for dinner and has fallen off the grid a little, 'Ohana has taken it's place as the most overrated restaurant on property, IMO.

'Ohana is really awful. totally annoying obnoxious emcee. meats are dry. service is extremely rushed. atmosphere is chaotic and not at all relaxing after a day at the parks. i wouldnt' eat there again under any circumstances. i think this place is really bad and am constantly amazed at the praise it gets on these boards

I go to 'Ohana every trip! The food is delicious and always fun to go to!

O'hana's for sure. it is my favorite in Disney! Love the food and the atmosphere. I also like Kona but everyone needs to try Ohana's at least once. I would book Kona and then keep checking for reservations at O'hana's. There have been a few times that I could not get a reservation but I was persistent and kept checking. You never know when someone may cancel.

I have to say 'Ohana as well. Although we enjoyed Boma, we didn't find the food or the atmosphere to be as good as that at 'Ohana.

Hate to say it but I agree. On previous trips Ohana was one of our favorites but last week it was a huge disappointment. I was thankful for free dining as I would have hated o pay for that meal.

The emcee drove DD15 nuts. On our last trip she was only 12 and we had little cousins in our group who participated so it was cute. Three years later, it was just annoying.

Everything tasted so sweet- the bread, dumplings, noodles. The chicken and pork were so overcooked and dry, they were inedible to all 4 of us. Thank goodness for the steak and shrimp.

The service was horrible. Starting with a very long wait for our ressie. Then service was slow and disappointing.

The dessert was delicious and a hit with all of us.

lol. One of our best meals ever was at Ohana's. Ironically, our last visit there was a gross disaster. Great table though. It was a late adr so I have mixed feelings about Ohana's. But we wont be back anytime soon.

I love the emcee, DH not so much.

I think you will love it. And yes, you need to experience Ohana for yourself. It was one of our favorite restaurants for years until recently. I cant wait to try Boma.

Don't forget to ask for a table on the fire pit side for the fireworks. There is no guarantee but you should ask.

Ohana not only has wonderful food, it is a fun experience!!! Visiting the Poly is always a treat as well!

Been to Boma several times and enjoy the food and atmosphere there too. Just not as much as Ohana.

You will really enjoy Kona.

The atmosphere can be like the restaurant in any convention hotel anywhere in America. I think that is partly due to the age of the hotel. HOWEVER, you will love the food.

The NY Strip is fantastic!!! It has a pineapple/polynesian flavor to it, and is very tender and good....I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

Don't go into a 9:30 ADR at 'Ohana expecting to see Wishes. 'Ohana is notorious for having to wait long after your ADR time (we have waited over 45 mins and I have read people saying they have waited twice as long). Also, those who have a table with a view are not going to be likely to leave and will drag out their meals until after Wishes. If you don't care if you see Wishes from there then that's fine, but if you have your hearts set on watching Wishes from 'Ohana your setting yourself up for disappointment.

Not having eaten at Boma before, I've heard nothing but good things. We have eaten at Ohana's for dinner once, and found the food to be very average. For the most part, we have found at Disney, that there is an inverse ratio for food quality to dining entertainment/atmosphere. This isn't true in every case, but the more entertainment/atmosphere a restaurant offers, the worse the food is. Examples, Ohana's, Spirit of Aloha, Whispering Canyon, San Angel Inn, SciFi Drive-in, Coral Reef. I'd continue to reading as many reviews as possible, before making a decision.

I think you made the right choice. It's not that 'Ohana is better; it's that it's more iconically Disney, and therefore essential for the first-timer. I suspect you will love it in a kitschy way regardless of whether the food delivers that night. Alcohol and a spirit of revelry help.
