Boma or Jiko?

We're NOT using the dining plan, and am attempting to determine which place we should eat for dinner. I really want to check out AKL, so thought it would be fun to have dinner there one night. We have 4 adults, and 2 somewhat picky kids (3 and 5). That said, I'm honestly not worried about the kids -- they'll always find something to eat.

So, if you could only choose one, which would it be?

Thanks!

Boma is the obvious choice, IMO, as it is a buffet.
Our children were 7-12, all enjoyed it, and all insisted we eat there again this trip. And they range from VERY picky to not picky at all.
Jiko is a more upscale place as well (tho child friendly, as nearly all are in WDW)
BUT buffet w/ 3 & 5 YO is not very relaxing...
Jiko has a lovely menu (we will be there Thurs) and a kids menu as well, so that could be a more relaxing choice!
We LOVE AKL!

Boma! We loved AKL...stayed there last time and will stay this time as well. The food smells each day as we came and left were fantastic!!

We had dinner at Jiko three weeks ago for the first time and it was one of the best meals I had ever had! Service was great. It was not cheep, But you do get what you paid for. Boma is good as well, But not on par with Jiko. JMO. Have a great trip!

I have to go Boma because I love the food and would rather have a little of a lot of choices instead of only one meal. Jiko is great but if I was only doing one it would definitely be Boma.

Thanks for all the opinions, all. I think we might go with Boma so everyone can graze (in the spirit of AKL). So excited!

Boma.

I am normally a non-buffet kind of girl, and I LOVE the signature restaurants at Disney. Having eaten at both, though, Boma wins.

Definitely Boma. Jiko is wonderful, but Boma will give you a better taste of African flavors and you'll get to sample a wider variety of food. It's one of the best buffets on Disney property.

I do not like buffets!

:) Just so you know.

I cook at home and we don't go out to eat much at home so when we go to our other home, ;), I want a NICE sit down relaxing dinner. We usually eat in the kitchen island and I STAND up to eat. Strange I know but it makes it easier to get food and drinks for the family. I have been doing this for YEARs.

Did I mention I like to sit down at a nice place to eat? :rotfl:

Our first trip to AKL we mistakenly made ADRs at Boma when we wanted Jinko's. So we ate at Boma's. One of my issues with buffets is how clean is the person who last used the buffet spoon? :scared1::eek::rotfl: I was waiting in line for dessert at Boma and the guy in front of me made a mess on the serving spoon and his hand. He proceeded to LICK is hand clean and then grabbed the spoon! :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

I skipped that desert. :lmao:

Boma is an expensive buffet. We spent the same amount at Boma as we did at Jikos.

Given my dislike of buffets, not sure if anyone picked up on that or not, :) if you can only go to Boma or Jiko's,....

Go to Boma! :rotfl::lmao:

The food is EXCELLENT. The meat selection is awesome. You don't get food like this just anywhere. The veggie, pasta, and desert selections are very very very good.

Later,
Dan

I'd go to Boma for the sampling experience and the variety, especially for the kids. Jiko is a great restaurant and worth a try some time, but since you paying OOP and looking to tour the Lodge, go for the buffet. Boma is not cheap, but at least you'll know what cost to expect for the meal and you'll get to try many different things.

If you do choose Jiko, the Filet with mac and cheese is outstanding!
