Although we've done Disney a few times, and we're fairly sure of most of the dinners we will be trying for this trip, I'm feeling all read out when it comes to restaurants that we haven't visited yet. Which would you pick in my shoes and why?

We are a family of 4 (DH, myself and our girls ages 6 and 4).

Thanks in advance!!

We have dined at both with two girls the same age. Basically you are aksing...Should you dine at a buffet or fine dining? Personally, I would always choose fine dining (fresh-made to order) over a buffet and the children menu at Jiko is above average too.

We ate at Jiko last month (DH, me and DD 2) and thought it was one of the best meals we have ever had at Disney. However,we have never eaten at Boma. We are not huge fans of the buffet dinners at Disney.

I have never eaten at Jiko (will this next trip!), but I went to Boma per glowing recommendations of a few friends last trip, and was not disappointed. The food, for a buffet, was surprisingly tasty and although I did not know what many of the things were, the server we had was very willing to explain/make recommendations. My sister has a nut allergy, and the chef also came to show her what on the buffet she could/could not eat. Overall, it was a fun experience and I think your girls would enjoy that over the fancier atmosphere of Jiko.

Our kids are 9, 7, & 2. We ate at both Jiko and Boma this past April and the April before. We love both places, but if I had to pick one it would be Jiko. The kids liked Jiko better as well.

My DW solved the problem of which to choose - Boma or Jiko - by making ADR's for both on different nights.:thumbsup2

I would choose Jiko for several reasons. Currently, the price of dining at Boma is $30.88 for an adult meal. That's a bit high, in my opinion, for a buffet. I think you can have a much better entree at Jiko for less or about the same price (granted, that doesn't include an app or a dessert). Also, the kid's menu items are just as good, if not better, than the items on the buffet. Don't get me wrong, though, Boma's is wonderful. You're picking between two really good restaurants, so you won't lose either way you go.

We did both in Oct and loved Jiko, didnt like Boma at all

If you don't want buffet and don't want to pay signature prices at Jiko, what about Sanaa at AKV? They also have windows looking at the savanna and the animals - but of course you are not guaranteed to be able to sit at one of those tables.

Thanks everyone!! I had been leaning towards Jiko, but was starting to second guess myself when I had read a couple of things. Then I just threw my hands up and thought I would ask the experts :)

As for costs, thankfully that isn't so much an issue since we're going to be on the dining plan.

I think we're going to aim for Jiko. I just can't wait to check out the AKL. It's my dream place to stay even though I've never stepped foot in the place. I think this will motivate me even more and we might skip Disney for a year so that we can save enough to stay there (we do budget trips so that we can go more often, usually).

One more quick question....any dress code type requirements for Jiko????? I thought I'd heard it mentioned once.

I never did Jiko. Heard all good. Did Boma for bk & dinner so good to.
So basically do you want to eat a regular meal or a signuature meal ?
Have a nice tirp :thumbsup2

You're not going to regret it. Jiko is fabulous! We dined there this past December and we loved the ambiance of the restaurant and the feel of the lodge. We finally booked a stay there this June, so we're definitely looking forward to it!

I don't believe there is a dress requirement for Jiko and keep in mind if your on the DDP Jiko is 2 TS credits, but it is worth it, we ate there for the 1st time on our past trip in January and loved it, I hope you do too!

Jiko has the same dress code as all Disney signatures. It's supposed to be business casual but as long as you aren't in bathing suits, torn clothing or tank tops/hats on men, you will be okay. Most people dress up in khakis or dress shorts and collared shirts on men, capris or sun dresses for the ladies.

Both Jiko and Boma are good. We prefer Boma overall because it's more adventurous food but Jiko has some killer appetizers.

I believe that the dress code is business casual for adults. I wore capri pants and a blouse, DH wore dress pants and a nice polo shirt, and this is what the kids wore:
