Alright...I'll keep this one simple.

Boma or Jiko....which one is better and why?

Thanks!

I've been to Jiko once and Boma 5 or 6 times. We like Boma so much better. The food at Jiko was okay, but nothing spectacular. I like all the variety you get at Boma. It's fun to sample a little bit of everything rather than having a plated entree.

They really do not compare very well.

Boma:
It is a buffet with a large variety of African foods. You get the typical traffic noise of people getting up to visit the buffet for their food. Boma is a little less formal. As the previous poster mentioned, you get a chance to taste many different items. If you are a large eater or a grazing type eater(small amounts of alot of different menu items) this is a good place to try.

Jiko:
More of an upscale restaurant. You get a more personalized attention from the wait-staff. The food is very well prepared and delicious. While I would not say the variety is smaller than Boma, you have to settle on one entree instead of trying a little of everything. A rather dimly-lit restaurant thus reinforcing the feel of a more formal restaurant. This is the one restaurant where we dine EVERY trip. Rather romantic for couples.

As you can tell, I much prefer Jiko. We love the Filet Mignon with red wine reduction sauce over a bed of white cheddar macaroni. And nothing beats a cup of African coffee after dinner at Jiko. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

But it is very much a personal preference decision. Both are excellent Disney-class restaurants. While I did not much care for Boma, I am sure there are many who prefer it. Either is a worthwhile experience.

Two totally different experiences, as MycatlovesEeyore described. I can't choose one. Jiko is fine dining (amazing!) and Boma is a more casual, fun, restaurant. I love them both. It would depend on what type of evening we were going for, who we were with, etc.

OK...that's all helpful. It is just me and my son (7) who is a picky eater. Which would you say is more child friendly? Probably Boma? Also, do they both have the Zebra Dome that everyone raves about? Or is that just offered at Boma?

I would like to try something new but still give DS the comfort of what he usually likes to eat if possible.

I've also read that Jiko has some kind of scallops on the menu, which sounds great...anyone have any exprience with that?

Thanks guys!

:thumbsup2

Oh ya, with a 7 year old, Boma would be better anyway. We love Boma and when we brought kids with us, Boma was great for selections kids would be happy with. Have fun....

We loved Jiko, didn't love Boma as much.

FWIW you can usually find zebra domes in the Mara (the quick-food option at the AKL) in the refridgerator case.
