Has anyone been to either Boma or Jiko with toddlers that could
tell me which would be better? We have a 4 and 3 year old and
can't decide which one.

Thanks.. Lois

I personally say boma, that is where i have made my september PS. From what ihear Boma is a little more family oriented, a little noisier, and people are less likely to stare if your children get a little raucous.

I have a VERY active 2 and 1/2 year old, and there have been times where i have left restaurants with out eating because my son was so loud he was disturbing other diners. It is my personal feeling that everyone is entitled to enjoy thier dinner without screaming misbehaving kids. A lot of people would diagree with me, but I would hate to have the tables turned around and have my meal ruined because of someone else's child.

I have heard of people bringing their young kids to Jiko however, so i guess it also depends on how your kids are. Some are quieter than others, i i would think that if your kids are quiet and generally well behaved, you could probably try Jiko. But before you make any PS's , look at Jiko's menu and see if ther are things your child would eat.

Hope this helps,
Sherrie

We ate a Boma with our 2, 4 and 6 year olds. I can't speak for Jiko, but Boma does have some more "traditional" foods on the kid section of the buffet for picky eaters.

(and the extensive array of deserts made them VERY happy :) )

Rhiannonwales, thanks, I think I'm going to try Boma when we go in October.
I agree with you, we too have taken our food to go when the kids
just wouldn't behave. I too don't like ruining other people's dinners
and am very self-consious. Glad to hear someone else does what
we do. I have to say at 4 and 3 it is getting better, it makes me
feel good that persistance on our part pays off.

ABCmom, thanks I'm going to check out the menu.

I've eaten at both and can tell you that Boma is a fairly loud restaurant. It has a high ceiling, lots of people getting up and down from their chairs going to the buffet, etc.

Jiko is much more subdued, quieter atmosphere, low lighting, etc - you get the picture.

I've seen children, even young ones at both restaurants, but you know your children best. Pick the atmosphere that would work out best for them. :)

Have fun, they're both GREAT restaurants!

We took our seven year old and three year old to Boma and they LOVED it and so did we. There were a lot of kids there. Boma is a bit more noisy than Jiko so if your kids aren't exactly the very quiet type no one will even notice.

I am the same way when it comes to dining with my kids. They know that if they act up they will be taken out of the restaurant and put in time out. I do not subject other diners to my kids bad behavior. For the most part they are very good in restaurants but like any child can get a bit over zelous and on the louder side. I was so proud of my boys at Boma. The ladies at the table right next to ours made it a point to tell me how well behaved my boys were. LOL and I thought the boys were being a little over zelous myself.

There is also a kiddie bar that has more traditional foods for the younger set. My boys loved this but also tried things that were in the adult section. The only red meat my youngest will eat is Prime Rib which is rather difficult to find for a child but Boma had it!! Both my boys were in their glory with their own pieces of Prime Rib! They went GA GA over the dessert bar. I think my older boy tried one of EVERYTHING they had.
