We are staying at AKV on our next trip and will have time for 2 dinners there. We are 2 adults and neither of us has eaten at any of these before. Which 2 should we pick?

I've been to Boma and Sanaa. I wasn't all that impressed with Boma, but I adored Sanaa. They had these beef short ribs that were to die for. I kept going on and on about them, and my bf at the time, who works at Disney, said I can get you the recipe. I laughed and said, I don't want to cook them, I just want to eat them!

I would definitely recommend Sanaa.

i have been to Boma and Sanaa and prefer the latter. The food at Boma was ok (but wouldn't say it reflected the price) but it was the the atmosphere that put me off going back. it was busy with a massive queue to get your meal (felt like being at school) and the restuarant was really noisy. However we had a lovely meal at Sanaa, the food was tasty and the service was friendly, we then went outside and saw some animals. :goodvibes

OK, this is interesting. I have heard so many good things about Boma, that I have been anxious to try it, but you all are playing into my secret fears about it. It seems like a lot to pay for a cafeteria. We are paying OOP, so we might get more bang for our buck at the other two.

Just ate a Jiko and Boma (for breakfast) this past weekend and enjoyed both. We were originally going to do Sanaa the night we went to Jiko, but the bus line coming back from the parks was crazy, so we had to make some last minute adjustments with our ADR and luckily they had something at Jiko that wasn't too late. Of note, Jiko does require a credit card to hold a reservation, even if you change last minute, where as the other two do not. We are fairly light eaters, so we were able to share a flat-bread and the Corvina (since we were paying OOP), both of which were delicious! We did splurge on the wine though :) My friend who works at animal kingdom has told me that they have the largest collection of South African wines outside of the country itself, so we couldn't pass that up!
Boma is more your usual buffet fair, with some african style dishes sprinkled in and you can find almost all of the same food at Mara for considerably less (at least for breakfast), but we just love the frunch (this yummy fruit juice they serve only there) so much that each trip we go at least once.
Enjoy your trip and all the yummy food :goodvibes wish I was back already!

We're eating there Saturday Night. Do you happen to remember if wine was priced similar to other WDW restaurants, or were the South African wines more expensive? What was the price range?

I remember the South African wine to be priced pretty much in line with other "Disney Priced" wines. We thoroughly enjoyed the Raats wine. :) (Hope I spelled that right - it sounds just like "rats")

They averaged between 9-17 dollars a glass, which I think is about average by Disney standards, and it is a fairly generous glass. I think more than half were by the bottle only though. I can't remember what they started at, but some they were definitely on the pricier side.

Jiko might be a great restaurant but the menu never appealed to me. We have eaten at Boma, and the first time we didn't like it but we tried it again and we really enjoyed it this past 2 times. We love Sanaa, the sustainable fish entree it so yummy! The assortment of bread appetizer with the dipping sauces were so good, even my 3 boys loved it!

If you can afford Jiko and the menu appeals to you, try it! If not, I would do Boma and Sanaa!!!

Boma is a "stuff yourself silly" with good food. Carrot Ginger Soup. Yummmmmmmmmm.
Since you don't have another night available, Try it for breakfast, if only for the press pot of Kenyan.

Jiko - braised short ribs - TO die for.

Sanaa - shades of Indian asian. Love it.

Thanks for the info. My DH & I like to share a bottle with dinner. I'm glad to see we should be able to find a wine we want for a reasonable price.

Definitely second Sanaa and Jiko, especially Sanaa. We think it's one of the best restaurants, especially for the price, on Disney property.

We have dined at all 3 many times. Boma is fun with a group but not a place my husband and I would pick when it's just us.

Jiko's soups and appetizers are better than the entrees. The wine selection is good; we probably spend somewhere around $100 a bottle there.

Sanaa ranks at the top of WDWs casual dining IMO. I have dined here 3 times, ordering something different each time, and it's all been good.

Jiko and Sanaa hands down. Boma is good, but a buffet and just not really up to the same quality and taste as Jiko and Sanaa.

I would also recommend Jiko and Sanaa as the best two of the three. Sanaa, for me, is the best 1TS restaurant on property. Jiko is a very good signature restaurant, and what I consider a very romantic restaurant.

The wine selection at Jiko has a lot of good stuff in the $40-$50/bottle range.

Also, you might want to check out the Culinary Tour of Africa, which AKL does every day at 4pm at the Boma host/hostess desk. You can take a look at the offerings at Boma and Jiko, try a soup and a dessert at Boma and the Taste of Africa bread and dip appetizer at Jiko, all for the low, low price of nothing.

Any of the photos I've seen of the short ribs/chicken/shrimp with rice combo appears to be a very small portion.

Can anyone tell me if this is accurate and if there is enough food served to be full after eating?

Has anyone ordered the NY strip steak - how was it ?

BOMA is our all time favorite restaurant with the family. But if it were just the 2 of us, I would pick Sanaa and Jiko! :thumbsup2
