We've decided to give Boma a try this next trip, but can't agree whether to have breakfast or dinner. Some of you guys must have tried both. How do they compare atmosphere wise ? If you could only do one, which would you do ?

Thanks,

Tony

I haven't done breakfast there but I'm a regular in the evenings. I can't see how their breakfast could be majorly different to any of the others on offer, whereas the evening meal is really something unique among Disney's food offerings. So although I haven't tried both, I'd say the evening would be my own choice.

I've done breakfast and dinner at Boma, and I would recommend going for dinner so that you can sample some of the more 'ethnic' style dishes.

Breakfast is pretty much a standard breakfast buffet, although the special Boma fruit juice is nice (if a little on the sweet side) :)

I haven't been there for breakfast, but would have to agree with what's already been said because the dinner menu is so good, and quite different from most places.

You can check out the menus here or here

Dinner! Skip everything and head for the dessert table. ::yes::

Those menus look an absolute treat!!! Think we'll definitely be making a visit there on our next trip - nice to see that Macaroni and cheese makes an appearance!!!!:D

Well sorry to say, this was the worst meal we had in our 2003 visit!!!.
Wouldnt go again, awful.

Never done breakfast, but dinner was OK. Desserts were to die for and the best we have eaten at Disney. As for the main selections...be wary if you have picky eaters. A lot of the dishes are very, very spicy. We took my mother and she ended up with choices from the kids bar (after trying quite a bit of the African food). I love spicy food, but some of it was too much for me as well. I did enjoy the African breads and Hummus. Not so keen on stuff like the Boboti (some kind of sponge cake atop mincemeat!!).

What really annoyed me about Boma was the lack of staff. We waited 30 minutes for our table (yes, we had a PS...and it was only 5.30pm in the afternoon). With the food being so spicy, drinks needed refilling often, and the few waiting staff just couldnt cope. The cheque took nearly 45 minutes to arrive after it had been requested. I also didnt like the fact it was very gloomy down there...I guess it was trying to encompass the "dark continent" feel, but I just thought it was dingy.

After all the rave reviews, we were disappointed. Wont be rushing back, but the desserts sure do make up for a lot that is wrong with this place!!

We've done both and breakfast has become something of a first morning tradition for us, but that's more to do with the fact that we're awake at the crack of dawn, so it's something to do before we head to a park than because it's better than dinner.

The breakfast is a bit different, though, in my view. They serve Bobotie, plus a similar spicy dish and there's a carvery (pork loin and ham). They also do a few breakfast pizzas - maybe that's not unusual, I'm not sure. They do omelettes to order - choose your own ingredients and watch them cook it. Definitely the nicest thing on the menu for me because it's fresh. The Fru-unch is included in the price, but if you want Kenyan coffee in a cafetiere, you have to pay extra (around $5).

When it comes to atmosphere though, dinner wins hands down. The ambiance at AKL during the evening is wonderful.

SId, first off let me say we cant fault AK, absolute lovely setting, worth going just for the look round LOL!

IMHO the food was awful, we had gone expecting good things(rave reviews), but the food was not your authentic fare(which is what we were expecting), food was Sooooo sweet, defintetly geared towards the american diet,it was bland(not spicy), and although you had lots of choices(which we did try most),it was nothing special and didnt deserve the hefty price they charge.Service wasnt that good either, which I see somebody else had mentioned, YES you expect it to be busy, lots of families etc etc,the place was very messy(unususal for disney!),and the staff, were blunt to say the least!, there were kids running and screaming, diving under tables(and over them!), and quiet frankly I felt like I was in Mc Donalds!!

Problay just a one off, but everything rolled into one, has put me off,I really wouldnt go back again!

SORRY.
Jules

Breakfast at Bomas was great - like Deb says different things were on the menu and we thought of all the Disney resort breakkies this was excellent value for money.

It's a great place to sit and wake up in the mornings, too:D

Re: Boma

I can't speak for breakfast but I would definitely recommend everyone try Boma once for dinner...lots of unusual dishes, but I concluded that the buffet price is worth it for the soup and dessert bar alone.

The chicken corn "porridge" is a very thick, tasty soup. Many folks raved about the squash soup. The pineapple cheesecake dessert is a real treat, not to be missed (and I don't usually care for cheesecake or pineapple!!!)

The kids buffet is very good too (the usual kids fare, nothing spicy)

Have a great meal!
